CAD: INSA’s MICROWIND3 full custom CAD tools.

Aims: To use the full custom, MICROWIND2, CAD tools of INSA (National Institute of Applied
Sciences) and to learn the design steps of complex designs.

Note: Must include all design steps and required

Tasks: Design of a T-type flip-flop with a Load control input

1. A D-Type Flip-flop can be built using the following circuit

Use MW3 to implement the circuit of figure 1.

Simulate the circuit and comment on the results.

2. The T-type flip-flop circuit can be constructed from a D-type flip-flop and additional
combination logic. The schematic diagram of the T-type flip-flop is shown in figure
2.

▪ Derive the Boolean expression representing Gate A as a single SCMOS complex

gate and simulate its behaviour

▪ Design Gate B using MW3, simulate and discuss its operation.

Use MW3 to design the full custom implementation of the T-type flip-flop.

Design Hints:

Elective 1: Intro to VLSI Design 1

▪ Use the DRC (Design Rule Check) each time you add a layer to reduce debugging
of layout while producing rule compliant layout.
▪ Design and simulate each unit before constructing the full circuit to reduce design
errors and layout debugging.
