PHILOSOPHY
SDSSU believes that higher education is an instrument for the improvement of life through democratized access to quality education in the
development of a well-rounded person.

PROGRAM GOALS
The program will equip students with competencies related to the basic and core requirements as well as those associated with major
and minor areas of concentration and elective courses.
Course Description: Students will be able to understand tourism planning as a process and as a set of techniques for sustainable tourism
development giving importance on the physical environment and the social, cultural and political realities of planning and
policy making. Students will engage with practical tools and strategies, industry, government, field work, and individual
and group projects to develop an understanding of tourism policy-making processes, and to gain skills in both evaluation
and development of tourism plans and policies.

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1.1 Demonstrate ability to define and explain relevant concepts such as tourism planning, tourism public policy and development.
1.2 Identify key stakeholders involved in tourism planning and policy-making and devise mechanism for engagement.
2. Skills
2.1 Demonstrate the ability to critique key tourism policy and planning approaches and models.
2.2 Demonstrate an ability to apply various planning and policy approaches in the context of natural, rural and urban areas.
2.3 Demonstrate skills to appropriately locate and evaluate tourism policy, planning information, sustainable tourism practices, and then apply
the relevant knowledge

3.1 Apply the conceptual tools of policy and planning to a wide variety of tourism cases to analyse situations and evaluate creative, thoughtful
feasible solutions for sustainable tourism
