Navaratri is a festival of nine nights and 10 days. “Nava” means “nine” and “ratri”
means “night” in Sanskrit. It is celebrated all over India and people of each state are
preparing special dishes during these days. In Tamil Nadu dolls are arranged during
Navaratri, called ‘kolu (golu)’. Here the dolls are arranged on a number of tiers and
people go to each other’s house to see the ‘Kolu (Golu)’.
