Executive Summary
UNDP is an international organization they have some Sustainable development goals. In
our report we have covered sixteen sustainable development goals. Which has covered
different aspects of developments. UNDP has targeted to achieve these sustainable
development goals by 2030.

UNDP is working toward sustainable developments according to the sustainable

development goals. There is a vision or sustainable development agenda that aims to end
poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting the environment by
2030. UNDP is playing a key role to progress or work according to sustainable
development goals in supporting countries to make the vision reality.

In our report we have focused on the activities and goals of UNDP Bangladesh and we’ve
prepared our report based on Bangladeshi perspective. We’ve conducted a survey and
according to the respondent’s opinion we’ve tired our best to figure out the progress and
process of UNDP Bangladesh to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Comparing the findings, the problems that UNDP Bangladesh is facing in developing/
working toward their goals. Bangladeshi people are lagging behind because of their
poverty, illiteracy, lack of awareness, many people are suffering from different diseases.
There is not enough supply of safe water, proper sanitation, and proper garbage
management and so on. UNDP Bangladesh is working on all of these and much more
important issues.

Bangladesh is developing at a remarkable speed that is really appreciable. Nowa-days

environment pollution is a burning question. The season is changing that is affecting us,
as well as other animals on land or underwater. UNDP is targeting all over the world to
resolve these problems. UNDP Bangladesh is working in according Bangladeshi
perspective and need.

1. Introduction of SDGs of Bangladesh

Bangladesh remains one of the poorest countries in the world with 43% of people living
on less than $1.90 per day, according to the World Bank, but it has also become one of
the eleven emerging economies of the world. Bangladesh is one of the forerunners in
achieving the first of eight Millennium Development Goals - reducing extreme poverty
rates by a half between 1990 and 2015. With the MDG achievements, Bangladesh has
built up a confidence to tackle the challenges of SDGs and achieve most of the goals by
2030, but some goals are so difficult where lot of investments will be required in
achieving those targets. For example:

 The end of poverty in all forms and end of hunger will mean to eliminate the poverty
in all areas of the country.

 Achievement of gender equality, will mean major changes in the law of inheritance,
besides eliminating all harmful practices such as child, early and forced marriage etc.

 To ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all will
surely need heavy investment with infrastructure build up and technological
innovations.

 To promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide

access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive intuitions at all
levels, there must be efforts and visible indications to significantly reduce illicit
financial and arms flows, strengthen the recovery and return of stolen goods and
combat all forms of organized crime.

 Climate and environment actions will need extensive help from the international
arena to build up better policies and raise public awareness.
2. Approach and Methodology:

2.1. Methodology:

For the purpose of getting our report done properly we’ve collected data and conducted
survey to get adequate information.

2.1.1. Data Sources:

For the findings part 80 questions were made to collect the valid
Data from 15 different respondents. Rating them in different criteria depending on the
pattern of question and for conducting the research, we have used both secondary and
primary information. The reason behind using the variable tool is to get more accurate
and valuable information as well as to enrich the trustworthiness of our report. Between
primary and secondary sources most of the data have been collected from the secondary
sources. We have started our work at the 2nd week of November. So far we have got 1
months to do our analysis on primary and secondary data.

Primary Sources: Interview of the respondents.

Secondary Sources:

• The annual report of UNDP

• Published papers, documents and reports.
• Published specifications of different products in website.

Sample size: There are 15 respondents.

2.1.2. Data analysis technique: MS Excel was used for data analysis.
2.1.3 Limitation of the study:

The main constraint of the study was of time as the duration of the program was of six
weeks only.

Insufficient supply of relevant books and journals.

As the respondents are very busy and mostly not interested in any survey. Even then
some respondents have cooperated with us, they could provide very little time.

Besides this, questions arise about the honesty or approach respondents’ followed
While filling up the questionnaire of my primary research

There were some restrictions to have access to the information so it was less possible to
get into that part for report writing purpose.

3.1Poverty
Findings
Though welfare organizations are taking necessary steps to reduce poverty from our
country, maximum people are not sure about their work. Whether they are doing enough
or not is not clear to them. Most of the people think that SME will help to reduce poverty
from our country.

50
Analysis

Our country is now middle income country, but according to the survey most poor people
don’t get enough money according to their work. It that case SME can help to reduce the
poverty level from our country. Even if we can start small business or get self- employed that
can be useful also. Different types of welfare organizations are working on this project but
people are getting confused day by day as they cannot see any positive changes around them.
Thus their functions should be discussed openly so that everyone can understand their
strategies.

3.2. Zero Hungary

Analysis:

The Zero Hunger Challenge was launched by United Nations Secretary-General Ban
Kimono in 2012. The Zero Hunger vision reflects five elements from within the SDGs,
which taken together, can end hunger, eliminate all forms of malnutrition, and build
inclusive and sustainable food systems
“Achieving Zero Hunger is our shared commitment. Now is the time to work as partners
and build a truly global movement to ensure the Right to Food for all and to build
sustainable agriculture and food systems.” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said.

Strongly agree agree divided disagree strongly agree

Our agriculture system is improving to fight hunger, is the statement correct?

People are now getting more conscious and taking necessary steps to control climate change, where do
you stand with the statement?
Do you agree with the idea that we have achieved our food security?
If government starts to provide ration do you believe it will enough to feed everyone?

Welfare organizations are creating impact to solve hunger problem, what is your opinion

3.3 Quality education

Despite progress, the world failed to meet the Millennium Development Goal
of achieving universal primary education by 2015. In 2013, the latest year for
which data are available, 59 million children of primary-school age were out
of school. Estimates show that, among those 59 million children, 1 in 5 of
those children had dropped out and recent trends suggest that 2 in 5 of out-of-
school children will never set foot in a classroom. The Sustainable
Development Goals clearly recognize that this gap must be closed, even as the
international community more explicitly addresses the challenges of quality
and equity.
Goal 4 strongly supports the reduction of persistent disparities. Worldwide, in 2013, two
thirds of the 757 million adults (aged 15 and over) who were unable to read and write
were women. Globally, in 2013, 1 in 10 girls were out of school, compared to 1 in 12
boys. Children from the poorest 20 per cent of households are nearly four times more
likely to be out of school than their richest peers

Findings:
1. It is a positive sight according to the most people that rural children are attending
school more than before. Our education system and government policies are
encouraging them to do so.

2. Most people are not having any decision about stating that whether our children are
getting enough knowledge from their institutions.
Do you think students of our country are participating in various international level competitions more than before?

The rate of having education degrees from foreign countries are getting low, do you believe our countries education is getting
better?
Is our children are getting enough knowledge from their institution?

Children’s, mainly rural children’s are attending school more than before?

Do you think our education is getting better day by day?

Analysis
Education is the backbone of a nation. Without proper education the nation cannot
stand straight. But most of the people could not state that our education system is
getting better day by day. But if we can see the percentage, children are attending
school more than before. People are also getting doubtful about getting enough
knowledge from the institute also. But in positive side, we can see that the
participation in various international level competitions are getting increased day by
day. Also the rate of having degree from foreign countries are getting less than before.
Thus we can say that if we can work strategically we can achieve quality education.
3.4 Gender Equality

Findings

1. Bangladesh now recognize the women power or gender equality. But still we have
some discrimination. The major percent discrimination in our rural are.

2. Bangladesh has been cognizant of the importance of addressing differential needs

of women and the existence of gender based discrimination since its independence,
and commitments have been enshrined in the national Constitution. The country
has therefore taken measures to in promote gender equality (GE) and women’s
empowerment in a progressive manner over time.

Form our data we can see that there high present is strongly agree so we have some
discrimination but also we have positive site to overcome the gender discrimination.

10 30

Gender equality and women’s empowerment have advanced in recent decades. Girls’
access to education has improved, the rate of child marriage declined and progress was
made in the area of sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, including
fewer maternal deaths. In 2015 almost male and female both are 50% population.
On average, women report that they spend 19% of their time each day in unpaid
activities, versus 8% for men.

3.5. Clean Water and Sanitation

Findings
1. Most of the people agree with the Bangladesh have adequate with source of drinking
water. But in our Bandarban area there have some problem but this problem not that
big.
There we can see same level of satisfaction and dissatisfaction level. People drink water but
still they have doubt it is safe or not.

12

10

Bangladesh have adequate source of drinking water but few place in Bangladesh there
have problem due to hill, solute water and Arsenic. On the other hand when people
drinking
water they have dute it safe or not this daute large percentage in urban area because of
unsafe water.

3.6. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructures

Findings
1. In present time Bangladesh Government look forward for those three sector. The
following are the major industries in Bangladesh: Agriculture: Approximately 30%
of Bangladesh's GDP comes from agriculture, making it the largest producing
economic sector. About 60% of the Bangladeshis work in this sector. It primarily
produces jute, rice, wheat, tea, tobacco, pulses and tomato.
2. Bangladesh need more skillful labor in work place.
3. Bangladesh have a positive site in improving skill of worker
Working environment in Bangladesh for worker level is good what is your opinion?

1. Analysis show that our working environment is moderate level for present
situation. Also it progress slowly.
2. We need more skillful labor and more innovative work place for improve worker
skill.
3. Also analysis show the positive result for improving worker skill so we should
keep it continue.

3.7 Reduce Inequalities

"Inequality" in British English. Inequality is the unfair

situation in society when some people have more
opportunities, money, etc. than other people: The law
has done little to prevent racial discrimination and
inequality. Inequality in Bangladesh has always been
referred to as a major problem. The rich continues to
become richer while the poor continues to become
poorer. Economic Inequality, Gender, education
Inequality are main Inequalities of Bangladesh.
Findings
Bangladesh government take some action to reduce inequalities. As a result female are
getting good behavior in workplace. Almost Male and female are both workers getting
same level wages and both have same level of dedication. Female participation was
low back in 2000 after that female and male both are increasing. This increasing level
is slow because of poverty.
Do you think Bangladesh government concern for a female worker?

Analysis
Analysis shows that people knows about government initiatives and they belief that
female workers are getting more facilities in working sector. Today’s females are more
conscious about their security and rights. Males are also agree with the new changes

3.8 Climate Action

Bangladesh is one of the largest deltas in the world which is highly vulnerable to
Natural Disasters because of its Geographical location, Flat and low-lying landscape,
Population density, Poverty, Illiteracy, Lack of Institutional setup etc. In other words,
the Physical, Social as well as Economic conditions of Bangladesh are very typical to
any of the most vulnerable countries to Natural Disasters in the world.
Findings

1. When Inquired about the effects of global warming and climate change most of the
people agreed that climate change is adversely affecting our way of life. But a
tendency among the less privileged class of our society was observed to be careless
towards this phenomena because they can hardly maintain they are day to day basic
requirements such as food, clothes etc.

2. Most of the people do not believe the initiative of government has and positive
effect, also they are skeptical about taking part in green practices as it does not provide
with a immediate significant result. However most agree that recycling is beneficial
for all parties involved.

30 15

Analysis

From the finding we can observe one of the current patterns of modern civilization where
many people either do not believe that climate change is a phenomena which is a result of
our actions or they do not care enough to adapt green practices as initially they cost little
bit higher but does not bear significance fruit or results. Though in the long run it proves
to be both economically and environmentally beneficial due to lack of awareness and
publicity people are not taking part in climate Action Plan as the situation demands.
With increased publicity and ensuring adequate knowledge among the mass people it will
become much easier to implement green policies. If the mass people are aware of the
financial gain they can reap after adapting green practices they are likely to adapt it.

3.9. Life below Water

The world’s oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents and life – drive global systems
that make the Earth habitable for humankind. How we manage this vital resource is essential
for humanity as a whole, and to counter balance the effects of climate change. Over three
billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. However, today
we are seeing 30% of the world’s fish stocks overexploited, well below a level at which they
can produce sustainable yields.

Findings
It is clearly established that people are aware of the necessity of life below water. It is
also clear they view maritime resources a strong source of food and financial stability.
The importance of life below water on our ecosystem is also well known among the mass
people. Despite most of the people believe that the government initiatives to preserve life
below water is important but they do not believe it has a desired effect on the overall
situation due to lack of supervision

3.10. Decent Work & Economic Growth

Analysis:

The SDGs promote sustained economic growth, higher levels of productivity and
technological innovation. Encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation are key to this,
as are effective measures to eradicate forced labor, slavery and human trafficking. With
these targets in mind, the goal is to achieve full and productive employment, and decent
work, for all women and men by 2030.
Analysis:

1. Table show that 30% of the strongly agree with the economic growth. So as a
result no we are in the better position than before.
2. We have high growth rate in our ICT sector but we have few training center.

as are effective measures to eradicate forced labor, slavery and human trafficking. With
these targets in mind, the goal is to achieve full and productive employment, and decent
work, for all women and men by 2030.

Do youe belive all the additional labour force will be employed?

Findings
Analysis show that our fiscal deficit of 5% of GDP is in the moderate level. People
want to maintain this deficit.
People have high percentage in research and development sector for proper utilization
on resource and increasing growth on economic.
3.11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

Analysis:

A sustainable city, or country is a city/communities designed with consideration of

environmental impact, inhabited by people dedicated towards minimization of required
inputs of energy, water and food, and waste output of heat, air pollution - CO2, methane,
and water pollution. The National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) has been
prepared to meet the formidable environmental challenges that Bangladesh faces in the way to
development. Apart from the domestic exigencies, NSDS fulfils Bangladesh’s commitment to the
international community to formulate and implement a sustainable development strategy
addressing environmental issues. Improved public transport and an increase in pre deserialization
to reduce car emissions. Roads may be designed to make driving difficult. Green roofs,
Sustainable transport, Zero-energy building, Sustainable urban drainage systems can help to make
a sustainable cities or a communities
Findings

1. Despite being a riverine country with over 700 rivers, Most of the people are not
familiar with the idea of use of river way as a means of transportation in business.
Even those who are not sure how to utilize it or make it a viable option.
When asked for policies they think should be implemented, most of the people readily
agreed that the Infrastructures should be upgraded and futuristic technologies such as it
automation should be included

General mass of people are not aware of the fact that river ways is a very effective
means of transportation. Having 700 rivers, Bangladesh is equipped to use her rivers
as an alternative means of transportation. But it is underutilized due to public on
awareness and lack of maintenance and publicity. The people strongly agree that is
developed alternative means of transportation will go a long way in developing a
sustainable city and community.
Because of this reason the whole Transportation system depends on the road
Infrastructure which is expensive to build and maintain. Due to very high population
density and land being not adequate it is difficult to construct a Highway System to
support the load. Because of this reason there is a huge population density in the capital
Dhaka which the Infrastructures cannot support. Utilizing the alternative Transportation
system will enable the transportation of goods by river ways which will drastically reduce
traffic load and subsequently the density on cities.

3.12. Life on Land

Analysis:

Human life depends on the earth as much as the ocean for our sustenance and
livelihoods. Plant life provides 80 percent of our human diet, and we rely on
agriculture as an important economic resource and means of development. Goal
15 focuses on managing forests sustainably, restoring degraded lands and
successfully combating desertification, reducing degraded natural habitats and
ending biodiversity loss. All of these efforts in combination will help ensure
that livelihoods are preserved for those that depend directly on forests and other
ecosystems, that biodiversity will thrive, and that the benefits of these natural
resources will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Findings

1. In general, when it comes to life on land people mostly have a clear idea about the
importance of all the species presence. From highly educated to not educate at all,
a large percentage agree that all life forms dwelling on the land are here for a
reason and it serves its purpose in maintaining the ecosystem.
2. Most of the mass people of Bangladesh believe that supervision is necessary in
order to maintain the ecosystem. People believe that Bangladesh have adequate
rules and regulation to ensure the survivability of the species in Bangladesh.
However they do not believe that government and the enforcement bodies are
doing enough to ensure the enforcement of these rules.

Explanation:

The maritime resources both living and nonliving is an important key element in our
lives. Maritime resources not only provides stable food source but also it is a very
prominent source of income if done with accordance to its sustainability One of the
biggest exports of Bangladesh is maritime resources like prawns, squid etc. Life below
water is also a source of livelihood for a lot of our people. With proper supervision it
will provide us with opportunity to achieve the goals of food self-sufficiency and also
help in creating jobs.
However this must be done after carefully examining the environmental impacts and
studying the proper way to collect this resource in a manner so that it is sustainable
and does not affect the species underwater
3.12. Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide

access to justice for all and build effective, account able and inclusive institutions
at all levels.

Many countries still face protracted violence and armed conflict, and far too many
people are poorly supported by weak institutions and lack access to justice,
information and other fundamental freedoms.

Findings

1. Most of the people of Bangladesh realizes the relationship between sustainability

and peace and Justice.
Overwhelming number of people do not believe there is an adequate peace and
justice system in Bangladesh. It is also general conception that the institutes that
enforces the legal system are not free of corruption or political influence. Mostly
people agreed that at a personal level we should try to abide by the rules. However
many described difficulty when following the rules as the legal system in
Bangladesh is not favorable.

19 20

24 10

Analysis

Most of the people interviewed voiced their concern about the peace and justice
system in our country at the present situation. There is sign that people are losing trust
in the law enforcement agencies as well as the governing bodies. The incidents that
surfaced in the recent times also validates their disbelief towards law enforcement
Agencies.
However if the law enforcement Agencies are not effective enough then the peace and
justice system will not work as it should. Without pigeon justice system working the
institutes will not function and sustainable country and community will not be possible
4. Recommendation:

a. Bangladesh is a developing country we are lag behind mostly because of

illiteracy and unawareness. We should increase more promotions to make
people aware of the necessity of education.
b. Half of the population are women but they don’t get equal opportunities.
Equal opportunities in every sector job, business, salary, security should be
provided to the women. More UNDP Bangladesh program should be
concentrated and planned for women.
More and more promotions or public awareness campaigning should be arranged to make
people more informed and increase their knowledge about how they can have good health
and well-beings
5. Conclusion

SDGs demand concerted and collective efforts with strong political commitment at
all levels. The 2030 Agenda comes at a time when Bangladesh has already kicked off
its journey towards an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a developed
country by 2041. Bangladesh has incorporated priorities of SDGs in all her
development policies. The Government has adopted an inclusive approach to
development so that the poorest and the most vulnerable section of the country can be
integrated into its national development efforts. As the country moves ahead,
challenges in several areas, including in resource mobilization and data management,
will have to be addressed.
Bangladesh is confident to set the example of a leading SDGs achiever.
