CASUS BELLI 2019 GUIDELINES

Beats and Strings Acoustic Band Competition

1. Qualification of Members
a. All members must be officially enrolled students of the second semester of AY
2019-2020.
b. The band must be composed of 3 - 5 members ONLY.
c. Failure to comply with these requirements will be a ground for disqualification.

2. Instruments Allowed

The following list of instruments allowed is EXCLUSIVE and the failure to comply with the
guidelines warrants a 20-point deduction from the total score garnered:

a. At least 1 acoustic guitar;

b. At least 1 bass guitar (Acoustic or Electric);
c. Shakers or similar instruments; and
d. Beat box.

3. Duration of Performance
a. Each band is given 3 minutes to set up their instruments on stage. After the lapse of
such time, the band is given another minute before the performance proper.
b. For the performance proper, the band is given a maximum of eight (8) minutes to
perform their songs.
c. Every minute of excess is equivalent to a point deduction of the total score garnered
(i.e., a five-minute excess is equivalent to a deduction of 5 points).

4. Choice of Songs
a. Any song may be played (e.g., Originals or covers in any language).
b. Obscenity is discouraged.
c. Vulgar or offensive language or behaviour on stage may warrant appropriate
deductions at the discretion of the judges.

5. Criteria for Judging

Music and Vocal Harmony 60%

Cleanliness of Execution (Mastery) 30%
Stage Presence and Audience Impact 10%
