Carrying and Transporting

When you move a casualty, his or her safety and well being should be your first consideration. Never
move a casualty who you think may be seriously injured unless there is an immediate threat to the
casualty’s life. Wait for professional help to arrive. If you have to move a casualty, support the joints
above and below any suspected breaks or other serious injury before you begin.

EMERGENCY RESCUE
-Is a rapid movement of patient from unsafe place to a place of safety.

Indications for Emergency Rescue

1. Danger of fire or explosion.
2. Danger of toxic gases or asphyxia due to lack of oxygen.
3. Serious traffic hazards.
4. Risk of drowning.

Indications for Emergency Rescue

1. Danger of electrocution.
2. Danger of collapsing walls.

Methods of Rescue
1. For immediate rescue without any assistance, drag or pull the victim.
2. Most of the one-man drags/carries and other transfer methods can be used as methods of rescue.
Factors to be considered in the selection or choosing the transfer method:
1. Nature and severity of injury.
2. Size of the victim
3. Physical capabilities of the first aider.
4. Number of personnel and equipment available.

Factors to be considered in the selection or choosing the transfer method:

1. Nature of evacuation route.
2. Distance to be covered.
3. Gender of the victims (last consideration).

Pointers to be observed during transfers:

1. Victim’s airway should be maintained open.
2. Haemorrhage is controlled.
3. Victim is safely maintained in the correct position.
E. Discussing new concept/s and Discussion:
practicing new skill #2

The teacher will give emphasis on concepts about the topic by asking the students about the importance
of having the knowledge and skills in transporting an injured person. (5 minutes)

I. Assessing Learning Simulation Exercise:

Activity (30 minutes)

Act It Out

1. Divide the class into four groups.

2. The leader of each group will pick a specific disaster provided by the teacher.

VI. Reflection:
Percentage of learners who exhibited
learning
Which of my teaching strategies worked
well? Why did these work?
