FACTORS AFFECTING THE PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

Genetic factor

 Something that exists in the gene we inherited

Physical features  Appearance levels, skin color, weight, body shape,


health level

 Obese children will be humble due to ridicule and can


not participate in sports activities such as their peers

 Physical features such as attractive, striking, and


good health levels enable an individual to succeed as
athletes in sports, thereby contributing to the
popularity among peers

 This condition leads to healthy personality


development
Nervous system  It is a biological response that affects the motor's
ability, physical strength and adaptability to
environmental change

 An extrovert has a strong nervous system able to


tolerate a stronger stimulation causing the extrovert
to love the active and challenging environment.

Environmental factors

 The experience we are experiencing in the physical and social


environment has an important influence on the formation of
personality in terms of attitudes, values and perceptions that are
owned

Family  children spend most time with family

 Family with love, warmth, and good manners will


contribute to the development of a good
personality

 Parents must allow children to play, speak and


do what interest them

 This will help them develop self confidence &


contribute to their personality development

 Children who suffer from family problems, loss of


loved one and experience seperation may have
some negative impact on their personality
development
School background  Conducive school environment such as physical,
emotion and social aspects contribute to positive
personality dev

 School is a place for guidance and behaviour


development

 A school’s practices that make a child feel


insecure, threated and afraid will contribute to an
unstable personality dev
Mass media  Through media, news are channeled directly to
children

 Those info might influence their thinking

 They might try to adapt to this style

 Parents must always guide and advise them


about the implication of the info

Food  Individuals need nutrition and clean food

 Avoid eating food that can harm mental,


emotional and physical health

Socioculture  Without education belief in God, individuals can


be influenced by negative culture in the society

 Too much freedom and a care-free life may bring

 With the knowledge, a teacher can predict negative
behaviour of their pupils

 Educational Psycology helps teachers to understand


the concept of instinct and needs of an individual

 Teacher must ensure the pupils’ needs are fulfilled

 By understanding their behaviour, teacher can help


shape pupil’s personality

Be sensitive towards  Every human being is born with some potentials

 Teacher encourage their pupils to nurture the

Accept the fact that  Teacher must realize every pupil is unique and
every individual is different from cognitive, emotional, physical and

 Personality has a strong relationship with self-concept

 An individual characteristic and attitude such as thinking style


and emotions make up one’s personality and differentiates one
from other individuals

 Personality is referred as a dynamic organization of


psycophysics in an individual that determines behaviour and
adaptation to the environment
