I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to do the following with 85% proficiency:
a. Explain what is table napkin folding;
b. Demonstrate basic table napkin folding;
c. Appreciate the importance of learning the basic table napkin folding.

So, let’s proceed to our new topic for today.

Exactly, for today our lesson is all about Table
Napkin Folding.

C. Presentation
What is your idea about table napkin folding?
Yes, Mr.?
This is usually used in Food and beverage
services in different hotels and fine dining
Very Good! They say napkin folding started restaurants.
during the Middle Ages. It started during the
rule of French leader Louis XIV to impress his
guests. The most common color used is white
that symbolize cleanliness. Napkin use for
table setting has three common sizes; First for
Refreshment 14” by 14”; Second for Standard
20” by 20”; lastly for Dinner is 24” by 24”.

are going to perform.

demonstrate the five basic table napkin folding
here in front, you will do also the same in your
seats.

The first basic table napkin folding is The
Pyramid
These are the steps for the pyramid
1. Lay the napkin face down in front of
you.
2. Fold the napkin in half diagonally
3. Rotate the napkin so the open end faces
away from you.
4. Fold the right end up to meet the far
corner
5. Repeat the fourth step with the left side
6. Turn the napkin over, keeping the open
end facing away from you
7. Fold the napkin in half by bringing the
farthest point of the diamond up and
back to the nearest point.
8. Turn the napkin over again, this time
keeping the open end facing towards
you.
9. Fold the napkin along the center seam. (Students will do the first basic table napkin
folding)

Next to pyramid is The Birds of Paradise.

The steps for Birds of Paradise
1. Lay the napkin face down in front of
you.
2. Fold the napkin in half.
3. Fold the napkin in quarters.
4. Fold the napkin in half diagonally,
creating a triangle.
5. Orient the triangle so the open tip is
facing away from you.
6. Fold the right corner diagonally
towards you. Do the same with the
right corner.
7. Fold the two wings that you just made
in folds under so that you have your
original triangle back
8. Fold the triangle in half
9. The birds almost ready to fly but first (Students will do the second basic table napkin

The third basic table napkin folding is The
Candle
The following are the steps to make a candle
fold.
1. Lay the napkin face down in front of
you.
2. Fold the napkin in half diagonally.
3. Orient the napkin so the open ends
point away from you.
4. Fold the long side up just about an inch.
5. Starting at either end tightly roll the
napkin into a cylinder.
6. Tuck the end of the roll into the base on
the backside and stand it up. (Students will do the candle)
The next basic table napkin folding is The
Standing Fan
These are the steps for the Standing Fan fold.
1. Lay the napkin face down in front of
you.
2. Fold the napkin in half and orient the
open end toward you.
3. Fold the napkin like an accordion
starting at neither narrow end. Leave 2
to 3 unfolded corner
4. Fold the napkin in half with the
accordion folds on outside.
5. Grasp the unfolded corner the tuck it.
6. Open it and stand it up. (Students will do the standing fan)
For the last among the five basic table napkin
folding we have the Basic Silverware Pouch,
The steps are as follows:
1. Lay the napkin face down in front of
you.
2. Fold the napkin in half and orient the
open end toward you.
3. Fold the napkin into quarters.
4. Orient the napkin so the open corner is
facing away and to the left
5. Fold the top most layer of napkin in
half diagonally.
6. Turn the napkin over so that the open
corner is now facing away and to the
right.
7. Fold the right side back about 1/3 of the
way. Repeat on the left side. (Students will do the last basic table napkin
8. Flip it over. folding)

These are the five basic napkin folding designs


that we are commonly see in food and
beverage service in household, restaurants and
hotels.

D. Application
For our activity, this entitled “Fold me with
Care”. All you have to do is perform the five
basic table napkin folding by group. Using the
table napkin makes a collaborative
demonstration and you will be rated according
to these criteria given.
Criteria:
Neatness 15points
Correctness 15points
Cooperation 10points
Total 40points (Students will do the activity by group.)
The manner by which the napkin is folded
contributes to the beauty of the table. Napkin at
a formal meal should match the color of the
tablecloth.

E. Values Integration
The teacher will ask students several questions
about Table Napkin Folding. Students will
appreciate the usage of Table Napkin and share
their ideas in using the Table Napkin in Food
and Beverage Services.

This activity is entitled “One for Fold, All for Fold”. You are going to perform the task by group.

Directions: Demonstrate all the basic table napkin folding. You will be choosing 5
representatives in your group to demonstrate the step here in front.

The work of the students will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Speed – 20points
Design – 20points
Total: 70points
