 Regulation on Use of Membrane based Water Purification
System
A. Applicability – Bureau of Indian Standard
Membrane based water purification system (MWPS) installed for Drinking Water
or operated for supply of potable drinking water except seawater 10500:2012
RO systems either at Point of Use (households, institutional,
community) or Point of entry (Common, community, housing society), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS)
or Commercial and Industrial premises for portable or process Limit
water quality requirements. Acceptable

B. Regulation – limit

Installation or use of MWPS shall be prohibited, at the Point Permissible

2000 mg/l
of Use or at the Point of Entry for purification of supplied water limit
which is subjected to conventional flocculation, filtration and
disinfection process or is from any sources which are in compliance
with acceptable limit for drinking water prescribed by Bureau of
Indian Standard 10500:2012 -Drinking Water Specification.
