A. LISTEN AND READ


LESSON PLAN
I. WARM UP
- T greets and introduces a video about making paper.
- T divides the class into 4 groups.
- T asks Ss to watch a video about making paper and list the things that are used to make paper in
the video. The fastest group with the most correct answers will be the winner.
- T checks the answers and announces the winner.

II. LEAD-IN
T: “In this video, they show us how to make paper. When you show others how to to something, you
give instructions. In this lesson, we will learn how to write an instruction.”

III. PRE-READING
- Reading for gist: T asks 2 Ss to read the conversation. The others listen, read the conversation and
answer the question: What are Nga and her grandma talking about?
=> They are talking about what life was like when Nga’s grandma was a young girl.

Vocabulary
- look after (v) = take care of
- electricity (n): we use this power to run TVs, phones, lights
- equipment (uncount. n): things that we use to do an activity. Ex: When we repair a house, we need
hammers, drills,… They are equipment.
- light-lit-lit (v): look at the picture. What are they doing?
- folk tale: an old story that people tell again and again
- tradition (n) - traditional (a): things that people do for a long time. Ex: children receiving lucky
money, the Vietnamese eating banh chung at Tet

Grammar - USED TO
- T: “When do we use USED TO?”
- Ss: “To talk about a thing that we did in the past but now we don’t do it anymore.”
- T introduces the structure: “After USED TO we use V bare.” + examples
- T asks the Ss to give some examples.

Checking understanding
- T gets Ss to do the exercise: “Work in pairs. Use the words in the box to complete the sentences”
- T invites some Ss to give the answers.
- T gives feedback.

IV. WHILE-READING
Activity 1 (Reading for detail): Fact or Opinion? (Can be replaced by True/ False)
- T: “Each sentence can be a fact or an opinion. Work in pairs. Read the conversation again and
write Fact or Opinion next to each sentence.”
- T invites some Ss to give the answers.
- T gives feedback.

Activity 2: Reading comprehension: Ask and answer questions


- Ss work in pairs and T asks some Ss to write the answers on the board.
- T gives feedback,
Activity 3: Summary.
- T prints out the sentences of the conversation’s summary and cuts them into 4 pieces of paper.
- T divides the class into 4/6 groups and gives each group 4 pieces of paper.
- T: “This is the summary of the story of Nga’s grandma. Put the sentences into correct order to
make a complete story. The fastest group with the correct answer will be the winner.”
- T asks the winning team to read the summary.

V. POST-READING
Discussion:
- T: “Discuss in groups of 4. What life was like when you were 6?”
- T invites some Ss to give their opinions.

VI. MORAL LESSON


- T shows Ss a video or a picture of what life was like in the past.
- Lesson: respect the previous generations for what they did to give you a better life, understand the
importance of studying History.
