Philosophy and educational theories plays a vital role in teaching and learning process. It explained
how we learn, and how we should teach. An educational philosophy is a personal statement of a
teacher’s guiding principles about “big pictures” education-related issues such as how student
learning and potential are most effectively in the classroom, school, community and society.

REACTION:
Educational theories or Philosophy gives a vital role in terms of goals, objectives, the school, the
students and even the teacher. It helps learners to improve their potential by believing in them as a
capable individual. It also gives opportunity for more discovery of new ideas and improve the high
order thinking skills. In this philosophy we as teachers are guided with different philosophical theories
in order to help our student be more creative and analytical thinking skills.

Existentialism t is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make
rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. It focuses on the question of human
existence, and the feeling that there is no purpose or explanation at the core of existence. The
basic aim of existentialist education is to develop a sense of commitment to free choice. 5, To
prepare child for social adjustment: Another aim of existential education is to prepare child for
social adjustment. Education should be such that it makes the student able to see beyond
personal interest and goal.

REACTION:

In existentialism, it helps the learner to grow, mature and self-actualize so that he can be
able to assess himself/herself and understand that the learners has its own capacity, can attain
the highest level of attainment and determine his own life and how to improve it. It is also serving
as the needs of the learner. As a teacher, we need to know the capabilities of our student and
these capabilities must be improve with the help of he teacher itself.

efforts.

Naturalism is a concept that firmly believes that ultimate reality lies in the nature of the
matter. Naturalism in Education The aim of education is to develop the child emotionally and
morally according to the child's needs naturalism has little impact on educational theory and
practice. Rousseau's Emile was to be educated according to the laws of nature, away from
society. Children should learn from their sensory experiences because the senses are the
gateways of knowledge. Let them learn by their own experiences. naturalism is the "idea or belief
that only natural (as opposed to supernatural or spiritual) laws and forces operate in the world." ..
"Ontological" refers to the philosophical study of the nature of being. Some philosophers
equate naturalism with materialism.

REACTION:

In naturalism, the teacher let the students to learn by using their own experiences with the
use of sensory organs. the way a child to learn its easy to understand by learning what they really
experienced. because learning by their own experiences is much better rather than exposing them
concepts without application.

IDEALISM

Character Development

Idealism is a philosophical approach that has as its central tenet that ideas are the only
true reality, the only thing worth knowing. In a search for truth, beauty, and justice that is enduring
and everlasting, the focus is on conscious reasoning in the mind. Idealism leads to the
development of the self of an individual. Idealism respects the individuality of the child and tries
to stimulate his creative energies. Because of the idealistic philosophy and education the school
has grown into an important social organization.

REACTION:

As an idealist teacher we must occupy a crucial position in the idealist school. The
teacher serves as a living example of what student can become intellectually, mentally, socially
and ethically. Whatever words and action showed to your student must be a good example
because learners nowadays are idolizing some of the students. one of the role of the teacher is
to pass on the knowledge of reality as he or she stands closer to the absolute than do the
students.
An idealist teacher she/he tends to see teaching as a calling rather than occupation.
They love what they do, they are not aftering the salary they have but they are aftering the
knowledge gained by the learners.

REALISM

MASTERY OF FACTS SIMPLE TO COMPLEX

Realism is the belief developed by Aristotle that there is an absolute reality,

and educational realism attempts to teach students how to find that reality through logical
processes. Study of the natural world, as well as the skill of inquiry, and the scientific method, are
all important parts of a realist classroom. The aim of education according to realism is to give to
the pupil a complete knowledge and understanding of human society human nature, motives and
institutions. Education must explain to the pupil how he is related to the world of man and to the
world of nature.

REACTION:

In realism, the teacher must know who are the learners, why they teach, where to teach and how
to teach. He/She must know the background of his/her learners. Sometimes we tend to judge immediately
without knowing the truth. The teacher himself should also be engaged in some research work and
experimentation at the same time he must inspire the children to undertake wide and close observation
and experimentation so that they are able to find out the new facts. The teacher must comprehend what
knowledge to be provided by the learners in a given time. In other words realism talks about that the
teacher be trained before teaching.

Pragmatism is an educational philosophy that says that education should be about life
and growth. Two important elements of pragmatism include practical learning, which focuses on
the real-world applications of lessons, and experiential learning, which involves learning through
experience, not through simple ideas. The only aim of education, according to pragmatism, is to
enable the child to create values in his life. In the words of Ross, education must create new
values: “the main task of educator is to put the education and into a position to develop values for
himself'.

REACTION:
In Pragmatism, teacher must against outdated, lifeless and rigidly traditional methods of
teaching. Methods must be formulated on the basis of the following principles:
1. Principles of purposive process of learning.
2. Principle of learning by doing
3. Principle of integration.
So in other words, pragmatism is one of the current educational thought and represented of
progressive trends in education. It uses the new trends of teaching. It emphasis the on learning
by doing and involve a learner to an active learning process.
