REVERSE INTERLOCK FOR BUSBAR WITH

MULTIPLE IN-FEEDERS RC-IN EM DG S 1

Busbar Protection Using Reverse Interlocking:

This type of protection is applicable for radial feeder circuits where there is a little or no back feed.
For star systems or open ring systems and this principle is often used, for example, in distribution
systems, auxiliary systems of power plants and similar systems.

In this situation the directional elements of the over-current protection functions are applied. By the
combination of directional and non-directional stages, the busbar fault can be uniquely identified.

The incoming and outgoing feeders are clearly defined that incomers always being considered as
suppliers and feeders as loads.

 All feeder relays should be connected towards to load & set forward directions.
 The busbar is protected by the non-directional I>> and Ie>> stages & the pick-up threshold of
these stages must be set such that they securely detect all short circuits on the busbar. They
operate with a time delay of approx. 80-100ms.
 If relays picks with directional address (2691- 67/67N picked up) then the fault cannot be on
the busbar.
 If Fault is on the feeder. The protection relay closest to the fault picks up and will be sent
blocking signal (2691- 67/67N picked up) to Incomer to block the protection of overcurrent
(1721->BLOCK 50-2).
 The non-directional stages Ip and IEp may be used as back-up for “reverse” faults, if the set
delay times are greater than those applied for the stages.
