Question/ problem statement: Can a pile of pennies be used as a resource of electricity power
or to light an LED lamp?

Background information or research: electricity is something that we often use in daily life.
Electricity can also be found in simple things that are around us, even our bodies like hair that
can produce electricity when rubbed with a plastic ruler which will produce static electricity.
Therefore, researchers want to do an experiment to see if the piles of coins that we meet every
day can be a source of electricity or batteries. As it is written in the PT PLN module that battery
or accumulator is an electric cell wherein an electrochemical process is reversible (which can be
reversed) with high efficiency (PT. PLN (Persero) UBS P3B, 2015), researchers want to do an
experiment to see if coins assembled in such a way can become batteries. The use of metal in this
study is based on the theory of metal properties, namely physical properties, namely metals have
electrical conductivity (citation). The metal used by researchers is a type of nickel metal and
brass metal.

Hypothesis :

Stacks of several metal coins can conduct electricity and become batteries and LED lights.

Experiment :

1. Materials

a. Salt e. Paper
b. Vinegar f. Copper plate
c. Metal coin (nickel & Brass) 30 g. Cart board
coins h. Water
d. Aluminum Foil i. Scissor
j. LED Lamp l. Voltmeter
k. Wire & cable

2. Procedures

a. Cut a number of paper or cardboard with the number of coins and paper scissors according
to the shape of the coin.

b. Cut the copper plate according to the shape of the coin.

c. Mix the salt and vinegar in a small bowl.

d. Dip brass coins and nickel coins and layer evenly into water mixed with vinegar and salt.
And arrange the coins in layers.

e. Test the stack of coins with a voltmeter. To insert LED lights, you only need 1 volt. Volt
voltages are related to the number of coins you use. The thing to note is the accuracy in
measuring voltages with a voltmeter.

f. Connect the cable or wire to the positive end and the negative end of the coin.

g. Leave the cable on one end of the coin.

h. Wrap the LED light wire with a cable that has been connected to the coin battery.

i. Finish 
