Copper & Iron Tango

Lab
Cheyanne & Emma
Prediction
If 1 mol of Iron (Steel Wool) is added to 1 mol of
CuSO4 then 1 mol of Copper will be produced.
The main point is the moles of Iron reacted will
be equivalent, or a 1:1 to moles of Copper
produced.
1Fe(s) + 1CuSO4(s) -> 1Cu(s) + 1FeSO4(s)

separate the Copper
from FeSO4 since this
is a single replacement

The biggest source of error that may
have skewed the results of our lab is inaccurate
measurements. While weighing out the amounts
of each substance there were a couple of
occasions when we added to much of something
or did not measure the extra distilled water.
Sources of However, based on the successful and conclusive
results of our experiment this most likely had no

Error real effect on the results.

Another source of error comes in the
form of inaccurate calculations. We weren't
100% sure our calculations regarding mols and
ratios are completely on point. We did however
double check our math and are pretty sure that
it is accurate.
Evidence of Chemical
Equation

• Color Change, in Trial #2;Fe turns

to pinkish-brown in the CuSO4
• Color Change, in Trial #2; After
filtering from a dark blue to light
blue solution.
• Temperature Change, in Trial #2;
Fe & CuSO4 heated up.
• Emission of Gas, in Trial #2; the
heat produced evaporated some
of the water, then showing
condensation.
