In the name of Allah, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful to our beloved,
Our Prophet S.A.W and his relatives. All praises to Allah S.W.T, The Most Glorious,
with His willingness who gave me the opportunity to complete this meaningful research
project.
Industry training (INTRA) well known as one of the main components that can
be found in the learning curriculum which been implemented in UniKL MICET at the
end of the semester during the Diploma program. It is compulsory for each student who
undergoes their Diploma studies to accomplish their 24 weeks of industrial training to
complete their 3 years course in Diploma of Chemical Engineering Technology
(Process).
The main objective of the INTRA program is to provide the real exposure of
industrial working environment specifically for the students. They were given choices
whether to perform their industrial training in government and private sectors according
to their own interest as long as the company provides training which has the connections
with the course taken. Throughout the industrial training, all activities will be supervised
by nominated supervisor.
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Industrial Training (INTRA) is the main requirements that every student need to
fulfill for graduating in UniKL Degree and Diploma Programme of Chemical
Engineering Technology (Process). The main objective focused during the INTRA
program is to provide sufficient exposure of real industrial working environment
specifically for students. Therefore, industrial training also provides the students
with lots of opportunity to relate all their knowledges during their studies in UniKL
and allocate it during their real work experience in industry.
Besides, all knowledges and skills can be enhanced during the attachment as it is
obtained only by experiencing by themselves. During the progress, students may
improve their confident level. Furthermore, personal skills such as critical thinking,
the way how problem solved, how flexible is the person, motivation and
interpersonal skills will be upgraded during their internship programme took place.
My supervisor, Pn Jiwaliza binti Sauni and all the staffs of Bumifocus Sdn. Bhd
have guided me throughout my internship period. They taught me on the proper way
of using grinder, driller and painting skills (gas pipe). I have also adopted a few
knowledges during my internship on how to read drawing especially P&ID and basic
skill on Autocad software. My position during the internship was a helper. It covers
from maintenance to service throughout the 6 months of period. Thanks to all
Bumifocus staff who had guided me and shared lots of knowledge during the
internship period. They had been aspiring me a lot during the time as she taught me
on how to using equipment.
CHAPTER II
COMPANY BACKGROUND
Over the years, BFSB have acquired vast experience and have a proven track
record by having various projects and jobs related to LPG, Natural Gas (NG)
reticulations and pipeline system projects.
BFSB has always provided the most cost effective value engineering solution to
our valuable clients. With the vast of knowledge and experience gained over the years,
with well trained and highly motivated competent professionals, as well as good track
record, financial strength and management.
BFSB are well positioned to scale even a greater height in the near future.
Besides the safety elements provided by BFSB for the benefit of our customers are
regular inspections and periodical maintenance
Company goal is to complete job on time, provide our client needs, and
maintaining a good and long term relationship with our clients.
To be known as an oil & gas company based LPG (Liquidified Petroleum Gas)
3.1 Introduction
The working time is differ based on the mall or venue to work. At Aeon mall,
usually after 10 P.M, the worker can start entering the mall from loading bay mall. If
Mcdonald’s 24 hours, usually at 12 P.M or 1 A.M they will close for a few hours for us
to do work.
The gas pipe paint is covered by 3 layers of paint. The first layer is red colour,
Red Oxide. Then, second layer is Zinc Chromate, green colour and the final layer is
yellow paint. Gas pipe need to be yellow colour because easy to identify and not
confused with other pipe. All this paint that will be layered to gas pipe are important as
not to rust easily due to weather and condition.

The leakage test is done by spraying the soap water on the valve or gas hose. If
the bubble exists, then somewhere the spot is leaked and dangerous. Leakage test also
can do by closing the ball valve before mainline and close all valve at the kitchen. If the
value drop from pressure gauge, then there is leakage somewhere there.
3.3.2 Flaring
Flaring usually do when there is hot work on live pipe for example, welding or
grinding. By connecting the flaring torch with gas hose onto some point at the main
pipe, the gas is burned and to confirm there is no LPG inside the pipe, the nitrogen gas is
used because there are no reaction between LPG and nitrogen.

To ensure there is no LPG inside the gas pipe, the flaring work is continuous for
2-3 hours. The flaring work usually do in the midnight when the mall stop the operation.
The next morning, the workers need to check all the kitchen equipment inside the mall
tenant to ensure nothing wrong and all the kitchen equipment can bring out the flame.
3.5 Maintenance
For maintenance, usually painting, change gas hose, change ball valve/solenoid
valve and change the regulator. If the regulator clogged and cannot be used anymore,
they (restaurant) will call the company and the staff worker will do the rest. Figure 8
show the example of old solenoid valve.

To know if the regulator can work as normal or damaged, blow into the hole and
if smoothly pass the hole, it can work and if nothing pass the hole, the regulator is
damaged.
If the gas pipe paint is corroded and look ugly, the gas pipe is needed to paint by
zinc chromate and yellow paint. The gas arrow also be sprayed along the gas pipe within
2 meter gap.
All restaurant that use LPG or natural gas need to have gas detector and gas
panel for safety purpose. If the store using LPG, the gas detector is put low on the wall
because the LPG density is higher than air. Thus, the gas detector can detect if there are
any leakage. For natural gas, the gas detector is installed not more than 300 mm from
ceiling. This is because of the density of natural gas is lighter than air. The gas panel
usually install near the gas meter because the gas panel need to be connected with
solenoid valve. If the gas detector detect any gas and the solenoid valve will cut off the
gas connection. To reset the solenoid valve, push the button at the solenoid valve and the
gas will be continue as normal.
While this work is dangerous and risking our lives, the safety is important to
avoid any injuries. The worker is mandatory to wear full PPE such as safety boots,
safety helmet, and welding helmet. Staging also used when the work need to do at high
place. Harness belt is mandatory for a person who used staging.
Another advantages that I had gained during the internship was to understand on
how the real works is. I also managed to boost up my confident and develop my
communication skills. I am so glad that I had learn how to communicate and interact
with workers who is elder than me, able to work together as a team, completing every
task given, be more discipline and many more. Moreover, industrial training creates an
opportunity for students to be more focus and aware on facing the real challenges in
working life.
