Short Quiz 4 (Take Home) March 11, 2020

2nd Semester, AY 2019-2020

Given that the motion of a continuous body, at time 𝑡, is defined by the relationship 𝒙 = 𝑭(𝑡) ⋅ 𝑿
where:
1 𝑡 𝑡2
𝑭(𝑡) = [𝑡 2 1 𝑡 ]
𝑡 𝑡2 1
−𝟏 (𝑡)
a) Show that 𝑿 = 𝑭 ⋅ 𝒙 where

1 −1 𝑡 0
𝑭−𝟏 (𝑡) = [ 0 −1 𝑡 ]
(𝑡 3 − 1)
𝑡 0 −1

b) Find the instantaneous velocity at time 𝑡 = 0 (initial condition) and point 𝑿 = (1,1,1)
c) Find the instantaneous velocity at time 𝑡 = 2 and point 𝑿 = (1,1,1)
d) Using 𝐽 = |𝑭(𝑡)|, show that at time 𝑡 = 1, the motion is not realistic.
