Ralph Bunche Scholars Program Application

The Ralph Bunche Scholars Program at the Los Angeles City College prepares students for the
rigors of academic work at four-year universities in the United States and abroad. Students
entering the Scholars Program will take and complete at a minimum four honors classes (STEM
majors) to five honors classes (Liberal Arts majors) to total at least 15 honors units, earn a
minimum of 3.3. cumulative GPA. or higher, complete an outside public service project (30
hours), and turn in a university level research paper. Upon completion of these requirements
students are certified as Ralph Bunche Scholars and/or TAP.

Admission:

High School Seniors:


For high school seniors entering as first time college students: 3.25 unweighted total GPA, written
essay, one letter of recommendation, an interview with the Scholars Director, and placement scores
for English (101) and Math (125) from Los Angeles City College.

Current and Non-Traditional Students:


12 completed units at LACC or other District Campus, 3.00 G.P.A., written essay, one letter of
recommendation from LACC faculty, or former teacher, and an interview with the Scholars Director.
Eligibility for English 101 satisfies requirement.

Special Admits:
Students may be admitted to the Scholars Program who do not meet the necessary requirements as
stated above. These students may exhibit evidence of scholarly promise, qualities of leadership and
potential for academic and/or artistic excellence. Students who believe they may not qualify under
the traditional requirements may request special admit by presenting one letter of recommendation,
by submitting a written essay, and by having an interview with the Scholars Director.

Students that have recently graduated from high school must submit sealed High School transcripts.
LACC or students that have attended other colleges must submit a copy of each college they have
