The Altoids Phone Charger Experiment

● GPO:Communicate Ideas
`
● I Can Statement: I can communicate ideas by discoursing the
procedure needed to create the charger using Altoids and how it
works.
● I can Recognize Perspective by understanding the steps to make the
Altoid Charger

I. Problem
● The problem or a scenario in which it can be a issue would be if we
can’t assemble the items properly
II. Introduction/Research
● The Altoid Phone Charger experiment is a experiment in which
we are conducting research on the productivity of a phone
charger of a Altoids. This is shown to see how much energy the
metal and the batteries can produce to charge a phone. We are
observing the amount of time the charger can charge the
phone. The equation we can predict is the amount of time and
the percentage of charge the battery can charge. The objective
is to make a different product of a charger and to observe how it
works.
III. Hypothesis
● If (Amount of time) is a big factor then (the percent charge) is a higher
amount
IV. Materials
● Material
● An altoids mint box, positive and negative wire, USB car charger,
electrical tape, wire cutters, small screwdriver, Pliers, 9V battery, 9V
battery adapter Phone charger
V. Experimental Procedure
● Identify:
o Control – the constants
o Independent variable –The percentage used to charge
the phone
o Dependent variable – The amount of time the charger
takes
● Procedure for the experiment:
● #1: Have your Materials provided to do the Experiment
● Take apart your USB car charger
● Unscrew the 2 screws then take out the USB charger itself
● Connect positive and negative wires, positive is the spring, negative is
one of the 2 bendable parts.
● Cut the wire so the copper/ metal
● Electric tape the negative and positive wires
● Connect the two wires onto the battery
● Cut altoids tin to the size of the USB car charger
● Place the battery/wires into the Altoid Box and Tape the wires to
secure

VII. Conclusion* (1-3 paragraphs)

The conclusion we have made by observing the materials provided to show

the current in the exposed wires are touching metal can cause a electrical
reaction to the battery and hence causes the charger to charge our
smartphones.

We also concluded to create this charger can help understand the process in
creating a alternate version of a charger and figure out what reaction the
battery has and the process

Errors that our project isn’t functionable is because the wires that are
connected to the usb charger is too thin for the battery to have solid contact
and the tape doesn’t assure the wires will be on the battery securely. Our
overall analysis of this project was interesting and profound, it showed us
how chargers are made. Also, the project helped us apply this to real life
situations by being resourceful and productive by following the steps
provided and making the project work.
