The responsibilities of a group leader in a mountaineering camp are-
• He should know the members of the team well.
• He should be sensitive towards the problems of the team members.
• He should be able to inspire others.
• He should be creative and innovative in his approach.
• He should be ready to take responsibility of any mistake.
• Look after those who are not well.
• Find a good place to stop and rest.
• Let the group go ahead and keep to the last.

7. Read the given extract and answer the following questions:


“By then our group had gone far ahead. It was already dark. I thought we had lost our way. Now
we were really scared”.
i)Who is referred as “We” in the above extract?

They were scared because they lost their way and it was already dark.

them.

9. Give reason:
i)We were told to first observe the rock carefully.
For climbing the rock, it is essential to first identify the places/holds where we can put our
hands and feet.

ii)The mountaineers were given hot chocolate milk with the breakfast.

iii)It is difficult to walk on the snow.


It is difficult to walk on the snow because of very little friction between the bottom of our
shoes and the snow.

Group number 7 included girls from Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
