A LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH USING STORY READING FRAMEWORK

(Dimensional Ordinary Approach)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. Infer the motives, attitudes and values of a character
2. Identify the figure of speech.
3. Realize that doing good things will never be forgotten and will always be
remembered.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


A. Skill : grammar/ language skill
B. Topic: “The Wave” by Margaret Hodges
C. Reference: “Communication Skills” pp. 95-97
D. Materials: copy of the short story
III. PROCEDURE
A. Pre- Reading
1. Motivational activity
Group the students into three and show the following words that
are written in a visual aid for 1 min. to test their memory.

Wave earthquake dark seashore


Village curve mountain torch
Frighten rice field tsunami flame

After flashing the words, students will be given 1 min. to write the words
that they can remember. Afterwards, they will give the meaning of the
corresponding words.

2. Motivation Question
Have ever experience to sacrifice something valuable for you for the sake
of many?
3. Motive Question
If you were on the place of Ojiisan would you do the same thing that he
did?

Silent reading of the selection

1st Dimension
1. Who are the characters of the story?
2. Where is the setting of the story?
3. Who was the farmer?
4. Where did he live
5. What time of the day did the earthquake happen?

2nd Dimension

1. What could have happened if Ojiisan had not done what he did?
2. What do you think happened to Ojiisan and Tada?
3. Why do you think Ojiisan burn the ricefield?
4. What does this line mean “the field of the villagers leading down to the
valley is like an innermost flight of golden stares?”
5. What is the theme of the story?

3rd Dimension

1. What can you say about the attitude of the main character of the story?
2. Does the title of the story suit to the story itself?

4th Dimension

Do you think there’s a still person like Ojiisan in our time? Cite instances
to prove your answer.

2. Literary Extenders
Divide the class into five (5) groups and let them act out a particular
scene in the story that they like most.

IV. EVALUATION
Explain the following lines:
1. The air was hot and still.
2. It drew back roaring.
3. The house rocked gently several times.
4. The rice burned like tinder.

2. What is noun?
