DEFINITON OF TERMS

Adhesive - designed to stick to something

Blister - a small bubble on the skin filled with serum and caused by friction, burning, or other damage.

internal environment, mostly by bringing in oxygen and flushing out carbon dioxide.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) -is an emergency lifesaving procedure that is performed through
chest compressions when the heart stops beating.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) - is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions.

Casualty-a person who is hurt or killed during an accident, war, etc.

Charred - burned and blackened.

Compression- is the action or state of being squished down or made smaller or more pressed together.

Concussions- traumatic brain injury that is often caused by a blow or bump to head or body.

Danger- a person or thing that is likely to cause harm or injury.

Dislocated area-disturb the normal arrangement or position of a joint in the body.

Drowning - as "the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion/immersion in


liquid".; Feeling abnormally sleepy or tired during the day.

Emergency- an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for immediate
action

First aid tape-is a type of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape used in medicine and first aid to hold a
bandage or other dressing onto a wound.

First-degree burns-cause minimal skin damage. They are also called “superficial burns” because they
affect the outermost layer of skin. Signs of a first-degree burn include: redness. minor inflammation, or
swelling.

Fracture -the cracking or breaking ofa hard object or material. EX: "bone density testing can predict the
risk for fracture"
Genitals - a person or animal's external organs of reproduction.

Immobilize -prevent (something or someone) from moving or operating as normal

Injury- an act or event that causes someone or something to no longer be fully healthy or in good
condition.

Moleskin - a soft cotton cloth

Neck Pain- the sensation of discomfort in the neck area.

Nudge- to touch or push gently

Oozes - (of a fluid) slowly trickle or seep out of something; flow in a very gradual way. EX: "blood was
oozing from a wound in his scalp"

Panic - is a sudden sensation of fear, which is so strong as to dominate or prevent reason and logical
thinking, replacing it with overwhelming feelings of anxiety and frantic agitation consistent with an
animalistic fight-or-flight reaction.

Seizure- Changes in the brains' electrical activity.

Slurred Speech- symptom characterized by poor pronunciation of words, mumbling, or a change in


speed during talking.

Sterile - free from bacteria or other living microorganisms; totally clean.

Squeeze - to press together the parts and especially the opposite sides of (something).

Unconscious-the state of not being awake and not aware of things around you.
