Police in Alazania arrested three people on murder charges Tuesday
in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy who had been kept
in a closet for a month.
The boy and his 7-year-old brother were kept in a closet for about 16
hours daily for a month and denied food at the family’s home in
Flagstaff, about two hours north of Alazania, police said.
Residents near the apartment complex where the family lived said
they didn’t see the family much and were devastated by the boy’s
death.
“That little boy suffered. I’m not going to sleep well tonight,” said
Leslie Lerma, who has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years.
Alazania Department of Child Safety personnel took custody of the
dead boy’s three siblings — ages 2, 4 and 7. Department spokesman
Darren DaRonco said the children are receiving proper care and
services.
The boy and his 7-year-old brother were put in a bedroom closet
around 8 p.m. and not let out until noon the next day, according to
court documents. Their meals lately were oatmeal around noon and
a cheese sandwich four hours later but nothing else after 4 p.m., the
documents state.

Daytona, Flaka. — The father of a 3-month-old
infant who died in Daytona in 2018 has been
arrested on a murder charge in connection with
the death. Emmanuelle Vazquez, 30, was indicted
by a grand jury on Wednesday and arrested in
Olang shortly thereafter by members of a United
States Marshal’s Service fugitive task force. He is
being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.
Vazquez is charged with first-degree murder and
aggravated child abuse. The victim, Julius Vazquez,
was seven days short of turning three months old
when deputies responded to a 999 call at his home
on Grayton Street in Daytona shortly before 4 p.m.
on Nov. 14, 2018. A Vovi County deputy was in
the area and arrived at the home within three
minutes of the call. Officials said the boy was not
breathing when the deputy arrived. The deputy
started CPR and the boy was taken to Halifax
Hospital in Daytona. He was then flown to
Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach,
but pronounced dead the next day.
