Simplifications and Extensions

Introducing Shiloh For a gifted child who needs enrichment, I


will allow them to fill out a character map
that includes all of the characters on one
instead of individually.

For a child with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are participating in
the stretch break, so they can come back
and focus in the next chapter.

For an English language learner, I will


speak clearly and directly towards the
student. I will make sure I have notecards
with pictures of each tough vocabulary we
come across in the chapters.

Author Study For a gifted child who needs enrichment, I


will allow them to create a poster about
the author.

For a child with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are participating in

them if they need helping writing the

Shiloh Flipbook For a gifted learner, I will allow them to


create a newspaper article on Shiloh
instead of the flip booklet, so they are
more challenged.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are completing the
flip book with the rest of the class and
staying on task.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them.
Word Wall For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a graffiti card for each vocabulary
word.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are completing the
graffiti card with the rest of the class and
staying on task.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them. I will allow them to ask for
assistance with the vocabulary as they
may struggle with this.
The Best Pet For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a newspaper article about their
interview regarding the best pet for them.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are completing the
writing with the rest of the class and
staying on task.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them. I will allow them to ask for
assistance with the writing as they may
struggle with this.
Shiloh Shaped Reports For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a Shiloh report without the cut out I
have included.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are completing the
writing with the rest of the class and
staying on task.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them. I will allow them to ask for
assistance with the writing, we have been
working on writing this week so they may
need less assistance.
Wanted Posters For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a wanted poster for Marty and a
missing poster for Shiloh.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are staying on task
and not being distracted.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them.
Marty vs. Judd For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a comparison poster of the two
characters.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are staying on task
and participating in the classroom
discussion.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them during the classroom
discussion.
Shiloh Final Project For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a project by themselves if they
would like to.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are staying on task
and participating in the project with their
partner.

For an ELL student, I will speak loudly and


clearly, when I am talking, I will face
towards them during the classroom
discussion. I will allow them to work with a
partner to discuss things for a better
understanding.
Shiloh Movie Day! For a gifted learner, I will allow them to
create a Venn Diagram about the movie
and book to show the class.

For a student with ADHD, I will sit them


beside me and keep a close eye on them.
I will make sure they are staying on task
while watching the movie.

For an ELL student, I will allow them to


raise their hand during the movie if they
have any questions and we will discuss it.
