Monday: The purpose of this lesson is to introduce the
book Shiloh. They will read the back of the Introducing Shiloh cover and predict what is going to happen in the book. They will also predict how far the main character will go to get the dog Shiloh. We will begin reading the first 5 chapters of the book. They will also summarize what happened today in the book. They will be filling out character maps for each new character we meet in the first 5 chapters. Tuesday: The purpose of this lesson is to study the author, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. They will Author Study write questions they want to know about her. The students will answer questions from reading about her biography in the back of the book. The questions the students are unable to answer, we will research to find out. They will be reading chapters 6 – 10 today. They will also summarize what happened today in the book.
Wednesday: The purpose of this lesson is to have the
students think about the text. They will finish Shiloh Center Questions the book today. They will also summarize what happened today in the book. They will answer comprehension questions about the text to think about the characters, events, and details of the book. Thursday: The purpose of this lesson is to allow the students to think about the details and Shiloh Flipbook contents of the book. They will be creating a flipbook. They will have to draw their very own Shiloh. They will also have to explain text connections they had with the book and vocabulary, setting and personal response to the book, character traits, solution, and their favorite part of the book. Friday: The purpose of this lesson is to study and understand the vocabulary from the book Word Wall Shiloh. They will pick from a list of vocabulary words. They will be creating their very own graffiti vocab word. This will include the writing of the word, the meaning of the word, the word used in a sentence, a picture used to describe the word, and a synonym of the word. Monday: The purpose of this lesson is to get the students thinking about Marty having a pet. The Best Pet They will be completing a creative writing assignment about what the best et would be for them and why. Tuesday: The purpose of this lesson is to get the students thinking about the book. They will be Shiloh Shaped Reports asked about the plot of the story. They are going to be creating their own Shiloh. On the Shiloh they will be describing in detail the problem, solution, conclusion, and Marty and Judd. Wednesday: The purpose of this lesson is for students to think about Shiloh being taken. They will think Wanted Posters about the good and bad things that come with taking Shiloh. They will discuss what they would have done. They will also create their own wanted poster for Marty. Thursday: The purpose of this lesson is for the students to understand two of the main characters. Marty vs. Judd They will be thinking about which character they believe is better. They will also be completing a Venn Diagram about the differences and similarities of Marty and Judd. Friday: The purpose of this lesson is for the students to think deeply about the novel. They will be Shiloh Final Project completing a final project. They will have choices to pick from. This will be describing and creating a summary of the book or a part in the book. Monday: The purpose of this lesson is for the students to have a fun lesson after the unit. They will Shiloh Movie Day! be comparing the book to the movie. They will have to write about the similarities and differences.
