 Students will develop an understanding of what encompasses the game of floor hockey and skills such as teamwork and effective
communication strategies, which can be applied to the outside world

Big Idea # 1: Necessary skills for hockey


Outcomes from the Alberta Program of Studies:
A10-3: apply and refine non-locomotor skills and concepts—effort, space and relationships—to perform and create a variety of activities to improve personal

A10-5: apply and refine manipulative skills and concepts—effort, space and relationships—to perform and create a variety of activities to improve personal
performance
A10-11: select, plan and create games that incorporate simple and more challenging strategies and tactics

The outcomes highlight the basic framework for the skills needed for floor hockey. It guides the students learning through locomotor and non-locomotor skills, while
incorporating them into games

C10-4: describe, apply, monitor and assess leadership and followership skills related to physical activity
C10-6: identify and demonstrate positive behaviors that show respect for self and others
Summary of how Big Idea emerged from Outcomes:
These outcomes allow for students to learn leadership and followership traits that will help them be successful within the sport. It also guides them to idenfity and show respect
towards others, which is a major concept of teamwork.

Big Idea # 3: Effective communication skills

C10-6: identify and demonstrate positive behaviors that show respect for self and others
D10-4: analyze, design and assess warm-up and cool-down activities
Summary of how Big Idea emerged from Outcomes:
To show respect to one another you must be able to effectively communicate with each other. These outcomes highlight what is expected, while also giving them a task such as
leading warm-ups and cool-downs amongst each other.
