African Mask Printmaking

5th Grade

Day 1: Into & Drawing Half


❏ Powerpoint on African Masks
❏ Start drawing half of mask
❏ Do border first!
❏ Cover whole page
❏ Handout reference packet
Day 2: Transfer & Foam
❏ Finish drawing mask & transfer to other side
❏ Go over lines
❏ Start foam (go over lines 3rd time)
❏ Make sure to take down paper to foam so it doesn’t move

Day 3: Continue working on foam

Day 4: Shade
❏ Powerpoint on printmaking
❏ Color darker sections into the mask

Day 5: Printing with Black Ink


❏ White paper first, then colored paper
❏ Clean prints! (at least 2 each)

Day 6: 2 Tone Colored Prints


❏ Clean prints! (at least 2)
❏ On white 1st if complete 2 clean prints and have time left can print on colored paper.
❏ Once prints are dry cut out with 1 in border and mate best on colored or black paper

Materials Needed:
Block Printing Ink
Brayers & Plexiglass (inking Surface)
White copy paper 4” x 6” & Foam Canvas 4” x 6”
White and colored paper (9” x 11”)
