Assignment
Que. 1: Find the correction for curvature and for refraction for a distance of (a) 1200 meters (b) 2.50
km.
Que. 2. Find the combined correction for curvature and refraction for distance of (a) 3500 m and (b) 2.5
km.
Que 3: The reading taken on a staff 150 m from the instrument with the bubble central was 1.875 m.
The bubble is then moved 5 divisions out of the centre, and the staff reading is observed to be 1.905 m
m. Find the angular value of one division of the bubble, and the radius of curvature of the bubble tube.
The length of one division of the bubble is 2 mm.
Que. 4: two pegs A and B are 150 meters apart. A level was set up in the line AB produced and sights
were taken to a staff held in tum on the pegs, the reading being 1.975 (A) and 1.270 (B), after the
bubble has been carefully brought to the centre of its run in each case. The reduced level of the tops of
the pegs A and B are known to be 120.685 and 121.425 m respectively. Determine (a) the angular error
of the collimation line in seconds, and (b) the length of sight for which the error due to curvature and
refraction would be the same as collimation error. Assume the radius of the each to be 6370 km.
Que 5. The following readings in meter were taken with a levelling instrument at intervals of 20 m
0.355 (on A), 0.485, 0.625, 1.755, 1.895, 2.350, 1.780, 0.345, 0.685, 1.230, and 2.150 (on B) m
during profile levelling survey.
The instrument was shifted after fourth and seventh readings. The first reading was taken on BM of RL
250.00 m.
Find the RLs of all the points by (a) Collimation method and (b) rise and fall method
Find the gradient of line AB.
