Ans) POST-MODERN ARCHITECTURE: -
Post-modern architecture is heralded by
the return of "wit, ornament and reference" to architecture in
response to the formalism of the International Style of modern
architecture.
Functional and formalized shapes and spaces of the
modernist style are replaced by diverse aesthetics styles collide,
form is adopted for its own sake, and new ways of viewing familiar
styles and space abound.
THEMES OF POST-MODERN ARCHITECTURE
Following are the themes of post-modern architecture
 Non linearity
 Influence of digital technology
 Inclusion of world culture
 Visual culture

 NON LINEARITY: -
Postmodern Architecture rejects the notion of
“pure” or “perfect” detail, instead it draws from all methods,
materials, forms and colours available to architects I-e a
nonlinear mentality.

 INFLUENCE OF DIGITAL TECNOLOGY: -


Post-modernist architects were most inspiring
from digital technology so they use digital technology in their
design
 INCLUSION OF WORLD CULTURE: -
Post-modern architects Took past components of
different styles and melded them together to create new means
of design. It is known for the re-emergence of surface
ornament, reference to its surrounding buildings and historical
references.

 VISUAL CULTURE: -
Post-modern architecture was a time of revival of
traditional elements and techniques. Post modernists did not
believe to ignore past architecture but looked to it in order to
learn from it.

ANS) EXPRESSIVENESS: -
The style was characterized by an
early-modernist adoption of novel materials, formal
innovation, and very un-usual massing. This architectural
movement during the first decades of the 20th century.
Expressionist architecture was designed to
evoke inner feelings and extreme emotions. Buildings
created in this style made a statement and stood out from
the structures around them. Architects often used distorted
unusual forms and incorporated innovative building
techniques using materials like brick, steel, and glass

and now: -
Expressiveness in modern architecture was
necessary as many of the modernist architect had fought on
the battlefields of world war 1. Their experiences greatly
impacted their work and what they created looked like
nothing that had come before it.
Now a day expressiveness is necessary as it give
a building a unique feeling. Now a day’s architects use this
style on the outer façade of the building but the inner
planning is mostly decided by the architect
