Personal Growth: Interests

Who am I now?

1. Describe a hobby or interest, either in school or outside of school, that you have spent time
developing this year. (Some examples: gaming, art, music, dance, writing, photography,
construction, building engines, hunting, having your own YouTube channel, etc. )
My hobby outside of school is learning different languages. I am currently trying to learn 3
languages fluently.

2. What do you like about this particular hobby or interest?

I like that if I become fluent in these languages, I will be able to communicate with more people
from around the world.

3. What kinds of skills have you developed or practiced via this hobby/interest?
I have developed is self-management since I am balancing another hobby on top of school. This
helps me learn how to juggle multiple things at once.

4. How has this hobby or interest challenged you to grow?

It has challenged me to grow because learning different languages exposes me to the cultures
that they’re from and this helps me become more comfortable with diversity.

5. If someone else told you they were interested in pursuing the same hobby or interest, what
advice would you give them?
I would tell them that they need to have a lot of patience since learning a language isn’t
something you can just complete in a certain amount of time. It has to progressively be learned
and even if they become fluent, they are still constantly learning new words, phrases, etc.

6. What connections can you make between this hobby/interest and the life you want to have for
yourself in the future? In other words, do you see this hobby or interest continuing? Is it related

to any career interests? Ten years from now, do you think

you’ll still be engaged in this hobby or interest? Explain.
I do think I will still be engaged in this hobby because I hope to pursue a career in something
related to language or linguistics.
