It gives us pleasure to inform you that Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Banaras Hindu
University is hosting the Youth Fest DISHA 2020, during 6th February to 8th
February 2020. Festival is aimed at motivating youth to devote their energies to
create a better society and develop a positive attitude towards their Art and Study.

There are total of 30 items put into five broad categories of Theatre, Music, Dance,
Literary and Fine Arts events. This year we are adding Fashion show and Exhibition
gallery for the students and staff members of the campus. We request you to join
your hand to make “DISHA” successful.

This festival reflects the diverse culture, unique heritage and rich tradition. The
festival provide the needed platform to show case the talents, creative skills and
capabilities of aspiring youth participation in various events of the festival will
develop in the youth , competency, confidence and courage to face the challenges of
life. As such, we invite your co-operation and support by encouraging your students
for spirited participation in all the events.

RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR VARIOUS EVENTS

1. MUSIC.

(a) CLASSICAL VOCAL SOLO


1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Cinema Songs are not allowed under this event.
3. Maximum number of accompanists is two.
4. Time allowed for item is 5 minutes.
5. Sufficient thought and care must be exercised in the choice of raga and
composition and general impression.

(b) CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL SOLO PERCUSSION (Tabla etc)


1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed..
2. Maximum number of accompanists is two.
3. Participants must bring their own instruments.
4. Time allowed for item is 5 minutes.
5. Judgment will most likely be based on qualities like Tal, Composition and general
impression.

(c) CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL SOLO NON-PERCUSSION (Sitar etc)


1 Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed..
2. Maximum number of accompanists is two.
3. Participants must bring their own instruments.
4. Instruments of western organ adopted in the Indian Raga System are allowed.
5. Time allowed for item is not less than 5 minutes.
6. Judgment will be based on qualities like Swara, Tal, Selection of Raga,
Composition and General Impression.

(d) LIGHT VOCAL SOLO (INDIAN)


1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed..
2. Time for stage / instrument setting is maximum 5 minutes.
3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two.
4. Duration of the song shall be 5 minutes.
5. Only Non Film Folk Songs/Geet/Gazal/Bhajan, Shabad and Abhangas can be
presented.
6. Judgment will most likely be based on qualities like Swara, Tal, Composition and
General Impression.

(e) GROUP SONG (INDIAN)


1 Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed..
2. Two group songs will be presented by the same team out of which one will be a
folk song.
3. Maximum number of singers in group can be 6. Maximum number of
accompanists’ instruments shall be three.
4. The group song should be taken from Indian songs which can be of any regional
language.
5. No film song should be presented as a group song.
6. Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes which does not include
setting time for a group shall not exceed 10 minutes.
7. Judgment of this event will be on the basis of quality of singing only and not on
makeup, costume.

(f) WESTERN VOCAL (SOLO)*


1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Time for stage/instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes.
3. The number of accompanists would not be more than 3.
4. Duration of the songs shall be 5 minutes.
5. Only non film can be presented.
6. Judgment will most likely be based on qualities like Singing, Composition and
General Impression.

(g) GROUP SONG (WESTERN)


1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed.
2. Maximum 6 singers in a group and maximum number of accompanists playing
instruments shall be 3.
3. The group songs should be taken from English Language.
4. Maximum time for a group shall not exceed 10 minutes.
5. Judging of this item will be on the basis of quality of singing only and not on
makeup, costumes and actions of the team.

2. DANCE
(a) CLASSICAL DANCE (INDIAN) SOLO
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Classical dance based on films is not allowed.
3. The classical dance can be from approved schools of dance such as Kathak,
Kaathakali, Bharathanatyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam and Oddissi etc.
3. Each participant will be allowed 5 minutes including time for participation, exit
etc.
4. Maximum 1 accompanist are permissible.
5. Judgment will be based basically on the qualities like Tal, Technique, Rhythms,
Abhinaya, Expression, Costume, Footwork and General Impression etc.

(b)FOLK / TRIBAL (GROUP) DANCE (INDIAN)


1. Only one team entry from each Department/Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Maximum number of participants allowed per team is 10, the team may consists
of all boys, all girls or mixing of both
3. The number of accompanists permissible is 2.
4. The dance can be either primitive or a folk dance (Indian style) but not a classical
one.
5. Duration of dance should be 8 minutes.
6. Three copies of a brief note giving the theme and the text of the song if any, is to
be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration.
7. The participating team will be responsible for the removal of their set properties
etc., immediately after the completion of their performance.
8. Judgments will be based on the basis of Rhythm, formation, expression, costumes,
makeup, set and overall effects.

(d) CHOREOGRAPHY
1. Only one team entry from each Department/Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. The choreography must have some theme and should be based on assorted music/
song piece from non-film/ medleys or on the spot music.
3. Maximum number of participants allowed per team is 10, the team may consists
of all boys, all girls or mixing of both
4. The number of accompanist permissible is 2.
5. Duration of dance should be 8 minutes.
6. The participating team will be responsible for the removal of their set properties
etc., immediately after the completion of their performance.
7.Judgments will be based on the basis of Rhythm, formation, expression, costumes,
makeup, set and overall effects.

(d) CREATIVE DANCE


1 Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2.The Dance should be based on some theme and props are allowed.
3. Each participant will be given 5 minutes including time for participation, exit etc.
4. Maximum 1 accompanist are permissible.
5. Judgment will be based basically on the qualities like Beats, Technique, Rhythms,
Expression, Costume, Footwork and General Impression etc.

3. THEATRE
(a) Short PLAY
1. Only one team of 10 students from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC
is allowed.
2. The duration of play should not exceed 20 minutes. Time will be counted as soon
as the signal is given for the team which starts giving the introduction, which ever is
earlier. Empty stage to be followed strictly for stage setting and removal of sets and
properties, up to 10 minutes will be given after taking charge of the stage.
3. The number of participants should not exceed nine (excluding 1 accompanist).
4. The participating teams shall bring their own set/stage property, make up material
etc., Light and general property such as ordinary furniture maybe provided in
advance information.
5. The play may be in Hindi, English or any regional languages of India. In case the
language is a religion one the synopsis of the play with translation in English or Hindi
must be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration.
6. The participating team must be report to the In-charge of the competition at least
two hours before presentation of the play.
7. Judgment will most likely be based on the qualities of the play like theme, work
on acting, stage, craft, total design and general impression etc

(b) SKIT
1. Only one team entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Maximum 7 participants are allowed (Excluding 1 accompanist).
3. Maximum time allowed for each team is 10.
4. Use of makeup, drapery and background music allowed.
5. No personal remarks, expressions, character assassination etc. is allowed.
6. Participating team should give 3 copies of names of the participants along with
language of presentation to the Convener.
7. The item will be judged basically on the qualities like team work on acting, stage
craft, total design and general impression.

(c) MIME
1. Only one team entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Maximum number of participants allowed to participate in this event is six.
(Excluding 1 accompanist).
3. Maximum time allotted for each team is 5 minutes.
4. Judgment will most likely be based on the qualities like idea, creativity of
presentation, use of makeup, costumes, music and general impression.

(d) MIMICRY
1.Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Each student artist shall be given 5 minutes item.
3. Participants may mimic sound of machines and speeches of well known persons
etc., including film personalities.
4. Only one entry is allowed.
5. Marking will be based on
(i) Skill imitating,
(ii) Variety of sounds and voices imitate,
(iii) Presentation.

(e) MONO ACTING


1.Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Each student artist shall be given 5 minutes item.
3. No separate timing for setting will be given.
4. Stage properties are allowed.

4. FINE ARTS
(a) ON THE SPOT PAINTING
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Item will be conducted on the spot and the participants will be requested to do
painting on the subject given by the in-charge of the competition.
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.
4. Size of the painting will be half imperial size drawing sheet i.e. 22 x 15 inches.
5. Painting can be done in oil, water, poster or postal colors.
6. Candidates are instructed to bring their own material like brushes, paints etc.
only the drawing sheet will be provided by the host.

(b) COLLAGE
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.

2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given topic / subject, sheet size 15x22
inches.
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.
4. Participants shall bring their own scissors, pasting and other materials required
for the contest. Collage has to be prepared from old magazines. The host will provide
the drawing sheet of the size 22 x 15 inches.

(c) POSTER MAKING


1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Item will be conducted on the spot and the participant will be requested to do
poster-making on the subject given by the in-charge of the competition.
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.
4. Candidates should bring their own material like brushes, colors etc.

(d) CARTOONING
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the subject / area.
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.

(e) RANGOLI
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.
3. Participants shall bring their own material. This art is known differently in various
regions such as Mandna, Alpana, Alekhan, Kolam, Rangoli etc. for this the medium
and form for expression can be free hand, pictorial and descriptive.
4. Only one medium shall be used – Poster Colours of Flower Petals or Saw – dust or
Pulses or Rice without pasting.
5. The participants shall have to prepare a rangoli with in the space provided by the
organizers.

(f) MEHANDI
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.
3. Participants shall bring their own material and one assistant on whose palm, she/
he can make design.

(g) SKETCHING
1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the subject / area.
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hours.
4. Themes will be given on the spot.

(h) ON THE SPOT PHOTOGRAPHY


1. Only one entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC is allowed.
2. Duration will not be more than 1 hours
3. The Participants has to bring his/her own digital camera of not more than 20 mega
pixels along with data transfer cable.
4. The Participants has to capture 5 photographs on the theme announced on the
spot by the judges.
5. Mixing, matching or morphing of the photographs will not be permitted.
6. Photo enhancing software such as photoshops, coral, paint etc will not be
permitted.

5. LITERARY EVENTS
(a) QUIZ
1. Only one team of 2 persons entry from each Department/ Courses running in
RGSC is allowed
2. There will be written preliminary round and finally 5 teams will be selected for the
final.
3. The final will be oral with audiovisual questions.
4. The specific rules regarding evaluation procedure, time to reply a particularly
answer and the type of round will be given before the actual start of the competition.

(b) ELOCUTION (Hindi, English and Sanskrit)


1. Only one elocutionist team of three person entries from each Department/ Courses
running in RGSC is allowed. One each for Hindi, English and Sanskrit.
2. Each participant will be given 5 minutes.
3. Anybody passing personal remarks on any religion, creed, person / party will be
disqualified.
4. Judgment will most likely be made on qualities like matter, delivery, diction and
impact created.
5. Paper reading/ points in writing is not allowed.

(c) DEBATE (Hindi, English and Sanskrit)


1.There will be three teams for the three languages are allowed. One team (consisting
of two students per subject) entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC
is allowed. One will speak on FOR and the other will speak AGAINST .
2. Each participant will be given 6 minutes duration.
3. Medium of expression will be in English, Hindi and Sanskrit.
4. Anybody passing personally remarks on any religion, creed, person or party will
be disqualified.
5. Judgment will most likely be made on qualities like matter, delivery diction and
impact created.
6.Paper reading/ points in writing is not allowed.

(d) ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION (Hindi, English and Sanskrit)


1. Only one team of 3 students per language from each Department/ Courses
running in RGSC is allowed. One each for Hindi, English and Sanskrit.
2.The topic for the essay writing will be given one day before competition .
3. Anybody passing personal remarks on any religion, creed, person / party will be
disqualified.
4. Judgment will most likely be made on qualities like matter, content and other
extra features related to topic.

(d) TURN COATS


1. Only one team of 1 person entry from each Department/ Courses running in RGSC
is allowed
2. The participants have to speak FOR the motion and AGAINST the motion either in
English OR Hindi.
3. The Topic will be given 10 minutes before the start on the spot.

(e) POETRY RECITATION (Hindi, English and Sanskrit)


1. Only one team of three person entries from each Department/ Courses running
in RGSC is allowed. One each for Hindi, English and Sanskrit.
2. Each participant will be given 5 minutes.
3. Anybody passing personal remarks on any religion, creed, person / party will be
disqualified.
4. Judgment will most likely be made on qualities like matter, delivery, diction and
impact created.
5. Paper reading/ points in writing is not allowed.

OTHER RULES & REGULATIONS

1. Cultural events of short plays, skits, mime, group song (Indian) and fine arts
of the youth festival would required to protect fundamental value of Indian
culture by displaying values, oriented towards the unity and values may help
to eliminate obscurantism, religious fanaticism, violence / superstition and
fatalism.
2. One participants may take participation in maximum upto 3 events.
3. The coordinators may reschedule and pre-announce any program on account
of any sudden development.
4. The team will participate in the order decided by draw of lots by the organizers.
5. It will be the responsibility of the leaders to ensure that the team reports of
various events as per the time and order announced by the organizers.
6. The participants must bring their own musical instruments or other special
items required for different events. The accompanists, if required will have to
be arranged by the participating teams to the extent to maximum possible
limits indicated.
7. Pre recorded music (CD/ PDs etc) can be permitted under the items of folk
dance and classical dance.
8. The participants are requested to study the rules and regulations for the
various events given above. The decision of the judges appointed for different
events shall be final and binding upon all.
9. Bonafide students pursuing a full time course/ Part time course in Rajiv
Gandhi South Campus, B.H.U. shall be eligible to participate in this festival.
10. The duly filled soft copy will be send to dishaculturalfest2020@gmail.com and
the hard copy will be signed by the teacher of the course and will send to
Professor Incharge office on or before 31st of January 2020.
