Q) What is organic farming?
ANS) Organic farming is a technique, which involves cultivation of plants and rearing of animals
in natural ways. This process involves the use of biological materials, avoiding synthetic
substances to maintain soil fertility and ecological balance thereby minimizing pollution and
wastage. In other words, organic farming is a farming method that involves growing and
nurturing crops without the use of synthetic based fertilizers and pesticides. Also, no genetically
modified organisms are permitted. It relies on ecologically balanced agricultural principles like
crop rotation, green manure, organic waste, biological pest control, mineral and rock additives.
Organic farming make use of pesticides and fertilizers if they are considered natural and avoids
the use of various petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Q) What are the advantages and disadvantages of organic farming?

ANS)

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
Farmers can reduce their production costs because Organic food is more expensive because farmers
they do not need to buy expensive chemicals and do not get as much out of their land as
fertilizers. conventional farmers do. Organic products may
cost up to 40% more.
Healthier farm workers. Production costs are higher because farmers need
more workers .
In the long term , organic farms save energy and Marketing and distribution is not efficient because
protect the environment. organic food is produced in smaller amounts.
It can slow down global warming. Food illnesses may happen more often.
Fewer residues in food. Organic farming cannot produce enough food that
the world’s population needs to survive. This
could lead to starvation in countries that produce
enough food today.
More animals and plants can live in the same
place in a natural way. This is called biodiversity.
Pollution of ground water is stopped.
