ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my
Principal Sr. Alice Joseph as well as our teacher Mrs. Aparajita
Majumder who gave me the golden opportunity to do this
wonderful project on topic “Organic Farming” which helped me
in doing lots of research and I came to know about so many new
things. I am really thankful to them.
At last I would like to thank my parents who helped me in
finalising the project within the limited time frame

ORGANIC FARMING
ORGANIC FARMING
Organic farming is a production system which avoids or largely excludes
the use of synthetically compounded fertilizers, pesticides, growth
regulators, genetically modified organisms and livestock food additives.
To the maximum extent possible organic farming system rely upon crop
rotations, use of crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green
manures, off farm organic wastes, etc and aspects of biological control to
maintain soil productivity.
Use of massive inputs of chemical fertilizers and toxic pesticides poisons
the land and water heavily. The after-effects of this are severe
environmental consequences, including loss of topsoil, decrease in soil
fertility etc
Organic farming is a management system that promotes and enhances
agro-ecosystem health. Many studies have shown that organic farming
methods can produce even higher yields than conventional methods.

Types of Organic Farming

Pure Organic Farming Integrated Organic Farming

 This involves avoiding all   This involves an integrated

unnatural chemicals. approach towards nutrient
Instead, fertilizer and management and pest
pesticides are obtained from management to meet
natural sources. It is known ecological standards and
as pure organic farming. economic demands.
WHY ORGANIC FARMING?
The word ‘organic’ has become one of those buzzwords you are hearing everywhere.
No wonder, Organic lifestyle not only brings positive effects to your health, but also to the planet. and we
truly believe that this will be the future. Besides removing all unnecessary chemicals from our hair
products, we strive to use as many certified organic ingredients as possible
But what is so great about going organic?

 Organic farming lowers the risk of environmental, pollution

and helps reduce greenhouse gas.
 Soil is one of our most important tools in the fight against
climate change – there are 2,500 billion tonnes of carbon
stored in the world’s soils!
 Organic farming creates healthy, living soils by nourishing
them with compost, nitrogen-fixing crops, and crop rotations
 Support local farmers and protect their surroundings
from toxic chemicals

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORGANIC FARMING & CONVENTIONAL
FARMING

ORGANIC FARMING CONVENTIONAL FARMING

• It is based on ecological • It is based on chemical orientation

orientation. • Deteriorate soil fertility
• Improves soil fertility. • Uses chemical fertilizers
• Uses bio-fertilizers. • Produce obtained will have
• Produce obtained will be free from chemical residues

Methods Commonly Used in Organic Farming
 Soil Management: This involves replenishing the soil
nutrients after each subsequent cropping season using
natural fertilizers. Using crop rotation patterns it inefficient,
natural weedicide is adopted to do the same in organic
farming which also helps in increasing fertility in the soil.

 Weed Management: Organic farming discourages the use of

chemical weedicides. And because pulling out weeds
mechanically requires a lot of labour and time, thus deeming
it inefficient, natural weedicide is adopted to do the same in
organic farming in the form of mowing, cutting, and
mulching.
Methods Commonly Used in Organic Farming
 Crop Diversity & Crop Rotation: Under this technique, different
crops can be cultivated together to meet the growing demands of
crops in the market and revive the soil.

 Biological Pest Control: Because all types of organic

farming avoid chemicals, farmers thus use living organisms as a way
of natural pest control. For instance, water hyacinth’s unrestricted
growth can be controlled through weevils (a kind of beetle).

 Green Manure & Composting: The use of plant & animal-based

products that are nutritionally dense is highly encouraged in organic
farming. Thus, these fertilizers & manures are often composted to
make nutrients more readily available to the soil’s microbes
ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC VEGETABLE AND FRUITS
BETTER OVERALL HEALTH
Because organic food is not produced or processed by the use of chemical
pesticides or chemical fertilizers, it does not contain any elements of toxic
chemicals  and may not affect human health in harmful ways

ANTIOXIDANT CONTENT
The consumption of organic food can contribute to more intake of nutritionally
advantageous antioxidants and limited exposure to heavy metals. The positive
impacts of antioxidants obtained from organic foods include prevention of heart
disease, cancer, vision problems, premature aging, and cognitive malfunction.

BETTER TASTE
Apart from nutrition, the mineral and sugar structures in organic foods are tasty
because the crops are given more time to develop and mature. The use of natural
and environmentally friendly agricultural production techniques is revealed to be
the reason for the better taste in organic food products.
ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC VEGETABLE AND FRUITS
ORGANIC PRODUCTS ARE POISON-FREE
Organic farming does not use any kind of dangerous chemicals to keep away
pests and diseases. All the practices are natural and thus do not harm the
consumer.

CONSUMPTION OF HIGHLY NUTRITIOUS FOOD

PRODUCTS
Organic food products such as organic meat, organic milk, organic fish, and
organic poultry contain very high nutritional content because they do not
contain modified ingredients compared to the conventional agricultural food
products. Another factor that makes them highly nutritious is that they are
given time to develop and are provided with the best natural conditions for
growth.

ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY
Organic foods are locally grown and pose very minimal interference to the
environmental resources that support healthy living. Since harmful chemicals
are forbidden in organic farming, there is minimum water, air, and soil
pollution therefore ensuring a healthier and safer environment.
ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC VEGETABLE AND FRUITS
LOWER LEVELS OF TOXIC METALS
By now, it’s clear that whatever we ingest indirectly comes
from the soil together with other physical environmental
interactions. So, the fact that organic farming doesn’t use
agrichemicals for crop production means minimized
consumption of toxic metals

YOU HAVE THE CERTAINTY YOU ARE

CONSUMING FRESH FOOD
Organic food products are guided by very strict standards of
production, processing and preparation. Not at any time will
you find chemical preservatives used in organic foods.
BENEFITS OF ORGANIC FOOD
Advantages of Organic Farming
 Farmers can reduce their production costs because they do not need to buy
expensive chemicals and fertilizers.
 Healthier farm workers.
 They improve plant growth and physiological activities of plants.
 In the long term, organic farms save energy and protect the environment.
 It can slow down global warming.
 There is an increasing consumer are willing to pay more for organic foods.
 Fewer residues in food.
