2. Are the attenuation coefficient values the same for different LEDs?
Explain.

3. The launch power (current) info a fiber can be calculated by rearranging the first
equation described in this activity.
Calculated the launch power for each LED using table 4.1.3. (Substitute the
phototransistor current for power in this equation because phototransistor current is
linearly proportional to the optical power.
LED P 1-meter α ℯ α(1) Po=P1. ℯα(1)
Red 0.08 0.18 ℯ (0.08)(1) 0.08(1.083)
= 1.083 = 0.086
Green 1.6 0.07 ℯ (1.6)(1) 1.6(4.95)
= 4.95 = 7.92
Infrared 1.88 2.43 ℯ (1.88)(1) 1.88(2.43)
= 6.55 =4.5684

4. Calculate the phototransistor current produced by the light from the three LEDs
having travelled down a 5 meter plastic optical fiber. Use table 4.14 as a guide.
LED Po α 1 ℯ -α(5) P5 meter=Po.ℯ-α(5)
Red 0.086 0.18 5 ℯ (-0.18)(5) 0.086(4.17)

Green 7.92 0.07 5 ℯ (-0.07)(5) 7.92(4.66)
= 4.66 = 36.90
Infrared 4.5684 2.43 5 ℯ (-2.43)(5) 4.568(0.44)
= 0.44 =2
