PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES OF MANAGEMENT (MGT420)

GROUP ASSIGNMENT (20%)

SEMESTER SEP 2018 – JAN 2019

This group assignment will address CO1, CO2 and CO3.

TASK: Students must choose one organization and analyze the implementation of certain
management concept process in the organization.

OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this assignment is to relate course concepts to real-
world examples and to examine the relevance of management concepts and theories in
management practice.

INSTRUCTIONS:
In a group of 5 to 6, you are required to:-

1. Identify and select an organization (can either be a private company OR not-for-profit

organization OR government body).

2. Conduct an interview with at least one of the managers/officers at the organization.

The organization chosen should have at least 20 employees.

3. Your interview should cover all aspects of the assigned task.

4. You are required to prepare a written report that discusses the implementation of the
management main activities/ processes at the chosen organization.

5. The final project report must be submitted by Week 12.

6. The assignment should adhere to the format of academic writing (APA format).

7. Evidence that the interview has been conducted will be given extra marks.

8. Each group must choose only ONE management concept below and be guided by
the report format guidelines for the completion of task;

GUIDELINES OF THE REPORT FORMAT

1. Introduction (not more than 5 pages inclusive of organization chart) – 5%

i. Explain the background of the organization
a. Name of the firm/business and company’s logo
b. Nature of business (product or service provided)
c. Location
d. Organization chart

2. Content – 75%:
Content should be based on all of these areas; (e.g. if you choose the topic on Planning)
i. What? (e.g. What is planning as defined by the organization? What type of
planning conducted?)
ii. Who? (e.g. Who conducts the planning process?)
iii. When? (e.g. When does the planning process begin and how long it takes?)
iv. How? (e.g. How it is conducted? Explain the process.)

3. Conclusion & recommendations – 15%:

i. State your views/ opinion of the current process (within the scope of the areas
discussed in part 2 above).
ii. Give at least two (2) recommendations on how the organization can further
improve (within the scope of the areas discussed in part 2 above).

GUIDELINES TO REPORT WRITING

1. Assignment should be computer typed using:
