CHAPTER THREE

1 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
2 3.1 Research design
The research design also was use descriptive design to describe the characteristics of
respondents and correlation in an attempt to collect data from members of a
population in order to determine the current status of that population in respect to one
or more variables. Survey research is therefore an adopted of this study which
requires the collection of quantitative research information from the sample data.
3.2 Research population
In this section we mentioned classification of three main following points:
3.2.1 Target population
The study will have respondents directly from the chosen Case Study of community
who lived in Mogadishu specially the staff of the ministry of labour and social affairs.
This may include expertise of the study, and other knowledgeable communities. All of
these participants were selected through random sampling. This sampling method is
conducted where each member of a population has an equal opportunity to become
part of the sample.
As all members of the population have an equal chance of becoming a research
participant, this is said to be the most efficient sampling procedure. In order to
conduct this sampling strategy, the researcher defined the population first, listed down
all the members of the population, and then selected members to make the sample.
For this purpose, a self-administered survey questionnaire was given to the
respondents to answer.
3.2.2 Sampling
This study had target community who consists of the 60 from the staff of ministry of
labour and social affairs, and error can be 5%. We used the following formula known
us
Slovene’s formula that has written as: n = N / (1 + Ne^2).
Solution
N= Number of the population
n= sample population
e= standard error
n= 60/ (1+60*0.05*0.05) = 52
The samples of this research become 60 of the respondents who live in Mogadishu the
capital city of Somalia.
3.2.3 Sampling techniques
This study will be used to practice sample random techniques. Sample random
technique used to select samples without bias from the target/accessible population.
Sample random means that this method is very smart performance to collect reliable
questionnaire.
3.3 Research instrument
This study uses a questionnaire as a tool of data collection from every respondent.
The main purpose of the questionnaire is to collect a lot of information short period of
time. Because they are suitable if a population is large and time is limited. Following
scales such as strongly disagree, disagree, Neutral, Agree, and strongly agree.
3.3 Reliability and validity of the instrument
Reliability refers to the extent to which data collection technique yield consistent
findings, similar observation is made or conclusion reached by other researchers or
there is transparency in how sense was made from the raw data (Saunders, 2009).
Validity refers to how well the data collection and data analysis of the research
captures the reality being studied. In other words the researchers must obtain the
reality of responses of those people who are under the test through comparing their
responses with such truth that in deed is truth.(Kothari, 2004)
3.4 Data gathering procedure
The collection of data in this study falls in to two categories: primary and secondary
as widely recognized in quantitative researches. Primary data involved information
collected by the researcher directly through instruments such as questionnaire. This
data was supplemented with secondary data which is basically primary data collected
by someone else to be obtained from records, internet, text books, the dissertations
and other materials as found helpful to the study. The researcher used primary and
secondary data collection because primary data provides the researcher with the most
accurate and up-to-date data. And the secondary data is easier and less expensive to
collect which seldom as useful and accurate as primary data.
The primary data were derived from the answers respondents gave in the self-
administered questionnaire prepared by the researcher and the information obtained
provided primary research data that supported the study.
The secondary data on the other hand, were derived from the findings stated in
published documents and literatures related to the research problem. These were
based from the recent literatures related to Trainings and Competitiveness.
After the questionnaire the data collected will be organized, summarized, statistically
treated and drafted in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and some charts
will be formulated in excel spread sheet(xls).
3.6 Ethical consideration
In this study the researchers consider the ethical issues throughout the research
project, and keep the openness, privacy and confidentiality of the respondent, to keep
the ethical issues data given by the respondent was used only for academic purpose,
this research is conducted ethically, all copyright is observed and permission is
required to reproduce materials are sought.
In the conduct of the research, the survey forms methods were drafted in a very clear
and concise manner to prevent conflicts among respondents. People who participated
in the research were given an ample time to respond to the questions posed on them to
avoid errors and inaccuracies in their answers. The respondents were given a waiver
regarding the confidentiality of their identity and the information that they did not
wish to disclose.
3.7 Limitations of the study
The major limitations of the study were as follows:
Some of the respondents were very senior and busy people’ hence getting an
appointment with them was very hard. The researcher however made sure that he met
them at their opportune time. The researcher did not have enough time to carry out
this research due to the time constraint provided by the university. The researcher
however managed to complete the research by squeezing the little time he had.
Confidentiality was also an issue whereby most respondents were unwilling to reveal
information for fear of the unknown. The researcher however countered this fear by
assuring them that the study was meant for academic purposes only and that their
names were not
