500-word Individual Self-Evaluation

Give a detailed critical analysis of the finished piece of work for this project, try to consider your work as a member of
an audience and recognise what has worked well and what has not been as successful in your project. Try to be
objective and weigh up the pros and cons focusing on the positive outcomes as well as the areas that have room for
improvement. Reflect on what you would change if you could make the work again? (100 words)

I believe the script that we were able to form and the storyline that came with it is a dynamic
and well-thought-out piece. It is hard to critique something that you have made, however, with
the issues we have faced due to the coronavirus there are a few things that we would like to
have improved I am sure. Script writing as a group is not easy and it gets even harder when
you are not able to physically meet with members of the group. Of course, this was out of our
control and we have done our best, all circumstances considered.

Describe the process of making the work and your individual contribution. Did things work out differently from the way
you had visualised them at the planning stage? What production issues did you encounter that caused problems during
the creative process? (150 words)

The whole process began with a brainstorming session on what the core idea was going to be
and once that had been formed, we each broke off into our individual areas. Katie was much
more focused on the storyline, so she stuck with the script writing and even finding our main
character. Tom and Harry were very much handling most of the technical aspects, what
equipment we would be using and the logistics of travelling with said equipment, storyboarding
and working on camera angles. This then left me to work on a few minor items. I began by
working on some of the theoretical aspects that we would be taking into consideration in the
area of influences but also to explain parts of the film’s development. I also researched a few
films in detail when we began with our initial idea and that allowed for the idea to be
constructed on the boundaries of cult classics of the music/drama genre.

It is important to write in detail about what you have learnt during the project both technically and creatively. Outline
specific skills you have developed because of making the work and new methods or approaches you have
experimented with. (150 words)

In my opinion, this project and the real-world issue have taught me to adapt to new learning
styles and my surroundings. I had struggled to work without face-to-face guidance on many
occasions previously, as I feel as though I am working in the wrong direction constantly.
Weirdly, this pandemic has taught me something extremely important and that is, I have help.
Unfortunately, I would not say I have learnt anything new technically, bar some of the
workshops we had before everything escalated. However, from a creative perspective I have
learnt to trust my own intuition much more and not worry so much. Working around an issue as
large as the pandemic we are currently facing is definitely “getting thrown in at the deep end”,
but I think it’s important to look at it from a positive perspective that we have still learnt new
things and that we have still produced something that we are proud of.

Reflect on how you worked as part of a team. Did all members contribute equally? What are your strengths and
weaknesses when it comes to teamwork? How can you improve your teamwork skills? (100 words)

I believe we worked very effectively as a team; I could not speak ill of any of my team
members. If anyone were at fault in any way it would be me, as my work ethic did not match
that of the rest of the group. My family lives in Spain and as I am sure you know they have been
hit hard with the Coronavirus, so my mind has constantly been elsewhere, and I have already
apologised for that. Usually I work extremely well in a group as I can bounce ideas of others and
I am able to rely on others to help me. I quite a patient person so I have a lot of time for
someone who may not be as confident in what they are doing. Something I can do to improve
my teamwork skill is try to better match my work ethic to my team member in the future.
