1.1 Scaling the geometry

First I simplify the model (fig 1) to make it easier to understand and manipulate.
(i) Copied original model.
(ii) Removed equations describing the mesh sizes and inputted the numerical value. [Check results = ✗]

Parameter Original Simplified

Central Frequency 5 GHz 5 GHz
Wavelength 60 mm = λ 60 mm = λ

Differences between the results in (ii) are attributed to a different mesh.

From original and simplified model out files: No. metallic triangles = 501  355
No. aperture triangles = 226  236

I do not understand why the mesh settings have changed. I have directly copied the value from the equation. The equation
consists of constant quantities, so I cannot see any reason why this is happening.

To assess the seriousness of the situation I will manually modify the mesh and examine the results…

1.1.1 Effect of Mesh Size:

(i) Original (equation defined) [2 mins]

(ii) Duplicate (values) [2 mins]
(iii) Coarse mesh for all geometry. [2 mins]
(iv) Regular mesh for all geometry. [2 mins]
(v) Fine mesh for all geometry. [2 mins]
(vi) Adaptive mesh for all geometry. [2 mins]
(vii) λ/300 for all geometry. [77 mins]

Results in figure 2.
