How ESSENTIAL are the Google Suites?

 Overview
Objective: Target Audience:
Teachers will be able to explain and Teachers and Staff
develop examples of how to effectively
utilize features of Google Suites (docs,
slides and forms) in order to complete
an escape room.

Key Learning Activities:

● Surveys
● Reflections
● An activity in each application (doc, form, and slide)

Assessment Strategy(ies):
● Google form

Fix 1:
Unnecessary Obstacles
Games challenge us with voluntary
obstacles and help us put our personal
strengths to better use (McGonigal,
2011, p. 22)
Participants are willingly accepting
the voluntary obstacle of an electronic
Escape Room. This obstacle will test
their personal strengths of the 4Cs
(communication, collaboration,
creativity and critical thinking), as
well as their technical skills. These
activities will further develop their
knowledge of Google Suite and extend
their learning to create meaningful
activities for their students.
The Fixes
Fix 3:
More Satisfying
Games give us clearer missions and
more satisfying, hands-on work
(McGonigal, 2011, p. 55)
Participants are driven by activities
that have clear goals and take the
necessary steps to complete tasks.
Escape Rooms begin with a challenge
and take participants through
engaging activities to achieve a quest,
unlock a room. During these tasks,
participants are motivated by
hands-on activities, as they
manipulate digital resources and learn
about Google Suites.
Fix 7:
Wholehearted Participation
Games motivate us to want to
participate and engage more fully by
being self-motivated and self-directed
(McGonigal, 2011, p.124)
Participants are being challenged to have to
work together to achieve the end result of
successfully completing the Escape Room. The
Escape Room provides participants with an
engaging task to use self-motivation and
self-direction in order to succeed and will
encourage participants to be successful in
completing the Escape Room. Moving through
the different rooms with their game pieces
and accomplishing smaller tasks will keep
participants engaged throughout the course of
the challenge to learn about the different
interactive components of Google Suite.
Fix 13:
Ten Thousand Hours Collaborating
Games help us make a more concerted
effort - and over time, they give us
collaboration superpowers(Mcgonigal,
2011, p. 277)
The participants will have to work together
and create a plan of attack in order to
complete the portion of the escape room they
are given. They will have to make a purposeful
effort to participate, communicate and
collaborate with their teammates in order to
understand the Google Suites and how they
can best utilize them for collaboration within
their own online classrooms. They are taking
the time to work together and engage with
their group and task, they should take away
various strategies of how to use the Google
Suites on their own!

forced inside their homes and are
only allowed to teach ONLINE! They
are only allowed to use google suite
Applications but have little
knowledge of them. You must unlock
the resources for the teachers to be
