when I was in highschool, we’ve been friends ever
since.

Expectations

*Ryan was rather young when he moved to Illinois so he didn’t

know much about the U.S. When he was told they were going to
move there, he felt like he wasn’t going to have any friends.

* He also heard through jokes and rumors that people here were
rude and super patriotic.

* He also felt he was never going to see his dad again since they
would be so far apart.
Reality

● Though it was a rocky start for him. He got into school and
made friends very quickly. He now has many friends that love
and care for him!
● To his surprise, his experience with other people has been very
pleasant. He says that people here are actually really nice
compared to what he has heard. He also really likes the
patriotism.
● He also is able to see his dad during holidays, though his
relationship with him is not as great as when he left.
Life In the U.S.
● Ryan and his mother moved to Wauconda, Illinois to start
their new life in the U.S. Ryan’s mother had family in the
area and had work lined up.
● Ryan graduated from Wauconda High School. He began
working in a hospital as a transporter.
● Unfortunately Ryan does not remember too much of the
culture back in Canada, but he does still miss his childhood
friends.
