1 Year Goal (Academic) -

★ In one year, I will be attending a four-year university studying engineering.

★ This is important because I aspire to be a biomedical engineer and contribute to new
advances in healthcare.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I am keeping my grades up, applying to universities, and
applying for scholarships to determine where I can best achieve my goals.
★ If I don't reach this goal I will hopefully still be at college and will be open to exploring
different fields of study where I can impact people’s lives in a positive way.

1 Year Goal (Personal) -

★ In one year, I will have a job or a paid internship.

★ This is important because I will need to pay many expenses in college, and having a way
to make money whether that be a retail or fast food job or a paid internship where I can
prepare for my future career, will make my college life much easier and will keep me
productive.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I am exploring opportunities for summer jobs and looking
for engineering internships that I could apply for.
★ If I don't reach this goal I will have to stay on top of budgeting my money and find
alternative ways to stay busy and productive over the summer and in college.

1 Year Goal (Personal or Academic) -

★ In one year, I will become more self-disciplined and independent.

★ This is important because as I transition into college, I need to adapt my habits so that I
stay motivated to complete my work and maintain my physical and mental health. I will
need to get better at not putting off work and keeping a schedule for all of my activities.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I am managing my time with several extracurriculars and
have started using a planner to keep track of what I need to accomplish.
★ If I don’t reach this goal, I will need to cut some social activities or extracurriculars out my
college experience to make sure I can handle the work I take on in a healthy way before
introducing more activities into my schedule.

5 Year Goal (Academic) -

★ In 5 years, I will have a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, and will be working
for a manufacturing company or at a hospital in the Michigan area.
★ This is important because I hope to be job-ready after four years of college so I can pay
back any loans I owe and get experience in an engineering position.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I have applied to universities that will provide the resources
(like internship opportunities) to build connections with Michigan companies that I could
work for coming out of college.
★ If I don't reach this goal I will look out of state for opportunities or consider finding work
through research at a university.
5 Year Goal (Personal) -

★ In 5 years, I will have completed meaningful research at a college or university.

★ This is important because I don’t want my college efforts to be solely for the purpose of
getting a degree and a job to make money. Instead, I want to use the opportunity to
conduct research to make an impact on society, even if it is only a small contribution.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I am applying to universities with good research programs
and facilities.
★ If I don't reach this goal I will still keep my overall purpose of making an impact in mind,
and I will try not to treat college or my future career as a chore but as an opportunity to
change people’s lives for the better.

10 Year Goal (Any) -

★ In 10 years, I will have written a book.

★ This is important because although I am pursuing STEM, I am passionate about writing
and would love to continue that hobby, even if what I write is never published. I feel like
a lot of a person’s personality can be captured in their writing, so a project like this could
be something I am remembered by after my life.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I am enjoying immersing myself in storytelling through my
AP Lit class, and reading (although it’s rare) when I find some down time.
★ If I don't reach this goal I will make an effort to read more and appreciate books, or write
less long-term pieces like poetry or short stories.

10 Year Goal (Any) -

★ In 10 years, I will have travelled outside of the country (far away from the United States).
★ This is important because I have never been outside of the country, and I want to
experience different cultures and ways of life.
★ Right now, to reach this goal, I am learning about different places around the world and
coming up with a future career plan that will leave me financially able to travel in 10
years.
★ If I don't reach this goal I will continue to seek opportunities to travel when I am in the
right place to even for short periods of time so I can expand my worldview.
