1. Magna Carta- Magna Carta was a 1215 document that limited the power of England’s
Monarchy
2. English Bill of Rights- The English Bill of rights was a 1689 document that limited the
monarch’s power guaranteed free elections, the right to a fair trial, and the elimination of
cruel unjust punishments.
3. New England Region- The New England Region was the northeastern part of the
United States and included the colonies of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire,
Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island
4. Middle Region- The Middle Region was between the New England and Southern
Region and included the colonies of New York, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania
5. Chesapeake Region- Located near the Chesapeake Bay and Once Part of the
colony of Virginia, later became the commonwealth of Virginia +The Province of
Maryland. It then became Maryland. It was “ravaged” by diseases such as malaria.
6. Lower South Region- The Lower South Region was South of the Middle Region. States
in this region include North+South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and
Louisiana
7. House of Burgesses- The House of Burgesses was the first Democratically elected
legislative assembly in the American Colonies. They first met on July, 30. 1670 at
Jamestown.
8. Mayflower Compact- The Mayflower Compact was the first agreement for a system of
self-government to be created and enforced in America.
9. Fundamental Orders of Connecticut- A precursor the the constitution, it established
rule and law in the towns of Wethersfield, Windsor, and Hartford beginning in 1639
10. Mercantilism- Mercantilism is a system in which a country tries to gain a lot of wealth
through trade with other countries. The country exports goods more than it imports
goods. It’s an economic system which prioritizes the goals of the government rather than
the individual.
11. Thomas Hooker- Thomas Hooker was the founder of the colony of connecticut and was
a prominent colonial Puritan Leader.

13. Separation Of Church and State- Separation Of Church and state says that any law
Congress of any Government makes must not be decided by religious beliefs or
prohibits anyone’s religious freedom.
14. Maryland Toleration Act of 1649- A Law Granting religious tolerance to Trinitarian
Christians
15. Push-Pull Factors- Pull Factors include a better quality of Life, Jobs and opportunities,
religious freedom, Political freedom, the irish-potato famine, and cheaper land. Push
Factors include poverty, Political and/or religious persecution, Natural Disasters,
education, or war.
16. Charles Montesquieu- Montesquieu was a French lawyer best known for his idea of the
separation of powers.
17. Social Construct- A social construct is something that is not human nature but rather
an invention of society.
18. Thomas Paine- One of the founding fathers of the United States, and a deist

represent them in government that shares and advocates for their beliefs

exported goods from Europe, To Africa, and to The Americas.
