A1: My country’s trail of development

Gap minder is an incredible resource that uses numeric information to determine the
statistical correlation among various socioeconomic factors of a population. Besides, users
can evaluate and explore the range between at least two nations for any preparation of
guideline. The information used by gap minder is accessed worldwide level and is gather by
from various institute like World Bank, OECD and International Labour Organisation. So, the
users of this application can be guaranteed about a high level of genuine and authenticity in
the statistic as they are seen with the figure no 1 which shows data of Nepal’s development
since 1900 as shown below. The two main aspects of Gap minder that I am using for my
research work are Life expectancy and Income per person (GDP).

Fig no:1

Life expectancy is defined as the number of years a person is expected to live. It is based on
an estimate of the average age that members of a particular population will be when they
die. Exploratory the data of my country Nepal since 1900, the time person where the life
expectancy has drastically changed is from 1916 to 1918 which can be seen from the above
graph.

The life expectancy of Nepal in 1916 is 32.8 years, which is very low. As it can be seen from
figure 1 there has been intensely decrease upto next couple of years also in 1918 the life
expectancy decline to 21 years. A reduction of over 10 years in the matter of 2 years is very
negative. After some research, I found that there are two main aspect that is responsible for
the changes of life expectancy from 1916 to 1918 i.e. First World War , and 1918 influenza
virus. Most of the country’s was affected and collapse during World War I that lasted from
1914 to 1918. Over 16000 Nepalese soilders left the country for the war.Secondly, influenza
virus killed more lifes than the World War I.During 1916 to 1918 life expectancy of Nepal
step down.

Income per person is the average income earned by a person of a country. Beginning of
1900 the income for each individual of Nepal was $822, which increased steadily with no
inconstancy and reached $2420 in 2018as in diagram 3. This change in income per
individual of Nepal is essentially moderate that the more created nations like Japan, China,
etc. Which have had the option to expand the income per person all the more essentially.
The Annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Nepal declined 7.90 percent from earlier year
2017 to 6.5percent in 2018. Gross domestic product Annual Growth Rate in Nepal found the
middle value of 4.61 percent from 1993 until 2018, achieving an unequaled high of 8.20
percent in 1994 and a record low of 0.10 percent in 2001.
Nepal was struck by an earthquake of magnitude of 7.8 in 1916 caused death of thousands
of people and several were injured, homeless and foodless. This factor has also affected life
expectancy. However, as far as income per person of Nepal is concerned, no drastic change
or fluctuation can be witnessed from the above graph.
From the above graph, we can see in 1981 there has been significant declined in income per
person in Nepal. The main reasons for this decrease is of low rate of saving and capital
accumulation as the saving of Nepal was very low because workers have little capital
equipment to work. Also due to unskilled manpower and uneducated workers it has
affected the income of per person .

Conclusion
Nepal is developing country, most people are engaged in agriculture, which utilizes more
than 70% of the population and records for 33% of GDP. As Nepal is one of the tourist
destination and Nepal’s earning from tourism sector is upto 643 million US dollars in 2017-
18. Also, the country has been working on hydroelectric power. Although Nepalese
economy has been steadily growing in recent years due to lack of governmental institutions,
growing population are causes of concern.
Link between income and life expectancy
There is a direct relationship between the income and life expectancy of a country, which
means the nation with higher income per individual has a higher life expectancy. This
relation has been explained along with the example of money and health in term Life
expectancy and Income per person. After 1990, Nepal designated 19.2 and 7.21% of each
budget limit for education and wellbeing individually. As there is improvement in health
sector in Nepal which has decrease in number of deaths.
