Concept of translation ethics

Ethics belongs to the philosophical disciplines. Translation ethics is a set of

unwritten rules of conduct of a translator in the course of his professional activity,
first of all in relations with the client of the translation, other participants of the
translation event, as well as with his fellow translators. Formed translation ethics is
aimed at creating a positive image of the translator in the eyes of the customer.
Compliance with these unwritten rules and regulations repeatedly increases the
guarantee that the customer will again request this translator the next time. It is
important to note that, in the first place, translation ethics implies correctness,
obligation and confidentiality.

According to Yuri Novikov (Certified Translator-Reference German and

English, Member of the Board of the Union of Translators of Russia), translation
etiquette contains the following elements:

2.Conscientious attitude towards all their translation duties.

3.Punctuality.

4.Adherence to the dress code.

5.Polite and correct attitude with all participants of the translation event.Traditional
etiquette in professional relationships between translators has traditionally included
the following points:

translator colleague if he or she translates incorrectly, and in general to discuss the
quality of his / her translation.

7.It is considered non-collegial and incorrect to take the customer to his colleague.

The translator's etiquette with respect to the translation client is basically as

follows:

Keeping all contact with the client's company and its clients only through the
responsible person, who is responsible for arranging translation and inviting
translators.

. Refraining from direct telephone contacts or e-mailing with speakers and other
customer representatives, unless otherwise agreed to by the customer in advance and
without urgent need.
. Confidentiality, that is, non-disclosure to any third party of any inside information
of the customer, which becomes known to the translator by oral or written translation
(this can be both commercial information and medical diagnosis when translating
medical reports).

. Responsive and correct attitude to both the customer and the client's customers and
participants of the translation event (this applies, first of all, to the oral translation).

. It is necessary to arrive at the place of interpretation 10-15 minutes before the

beginning (at responsible events with simultaneous translation for 20-30 minutes to
check the proper functioning of the equipment).

. It is only necessary to go after the translation event, having previously informed the
party responsible for the event.

. Refraining from engaging in third-party conversations with the customer and

customers (during breaks, on the way to the next meeting, etc.).

Translator etiquette in relation to translation agencies comes down to two key points:

. Not to take away the customer and not to work with him directly.

The moral principles of translation work relate to the professional ethics of the
translator. It is not possible to determine exactly what a translator can and cannot
do. The views of responsible practitioners on this issue differ widely. All scientists
came to the same opinion that, in the course of oral sequential translation, a
qualified translator was able to transmit about eighty-five percent of the source
material without loss of content. This kind of communication services is objective.
But if the translator does not adhere to professional ethics, then complete blocking
of information may occur. Ethical compliance has a significant impact on the
translation result. Given that interpretation is a job that requires direct contact with
people, the translator must adhere to ethical standards when communicating. every
employee of the Translation Bureau should be able to behave and show their
upbringing. Of course, everyone can understand the importance of education in
their own way, but its basis is the observance of certain rules that allow a person to
treat other people with care. It is possible to show disrespect, if in the presence of a
person, to speak about it in the third person. Properly executed translation does not
allow the change of the person of the pronoun, namely the change of one
grammatical form to another.

In conclusion,I think that ethics is one of the most significant matters which
translation studies has been interested in recently.It is really very important for
translators to use ethics to make their translation really professionable and easy
readable and understasndable.Translotors arfe considered to be responsible for text
so they must write it according to ethics norms.
