Summary of Objectives and Results

Title: Press Kit

Problem/opportunity: McLean County Arts Center needed a press kit to promote the local artists

in the Bloomington-Normal community.

Special circumstances: This was a group project for my COM 268 Public Relations Writing

course. We each split up this work sample into individual sections, therefore I only included my

work from this press kit. Contents included in this press kit are a news release, a backgrounder

and a 30 second PSA. We conducted research, clientele and background information about a real

organization using a hypothetical situation.

Target public(s):

● Primary: This press kit is aimed toward local media outlets within McLean County to

promote their organization

● Secondary: Anyone who shows interest in the local arts

● External: McLean County aimed towards those who show interest in the local arts

● Internal: The artists within McLean County Arts Center creating a press kit in order to

become more appealing to the community.

Objective:

1. Expand external publics to promote McLean County Arts Center by highlighting

influential pieces of art from local artists. (Benchmark: conducting research from

McLean County Arts Center website and raising awareness for art galleries in McLean

County).
2. Create a press kit for McLean County Arts Center by November 28, 2019. (Benchmark:

using previous work done by artists, backgrounder, history, etc. derived from local

artists)

3. Create a public service announcement (PSA) to be played on the radio for a hypothetical

situation. (Benchmark: research local radio networks to potentially be played in the

McLean County area.)

Evaluation:

1. This work sample met the intended deadline.

2. This press kit was hypothetical but if it was treated as a real situation, media coverage

would be reached by reaching out to local media outlets to promote the center.

3. It was hypothetical, but the exhibits that are being promoted would actually happen. As a

Public Relations professional, I would work one on one with external and internal publics

to effectively launch exhibits that are included within the press kit.
