Adaptation Response Worksheet

Instructions: ​You will choose 2 plays to write a short response based on the performance clips
we watch in class.​ ​The assignment is a word-doc based worksheet that you will simply reflect
and respond to several questions engaging with the concept of adaptation and draw connections
your own interpretation of the play as it was written. Submissions will be turned in via the
Canvas Assignment link at 11:59pm the Friday following the in-class viewing of the play.

Objectives:

·​ ​Students will read, discuss, and analyze various plays to be introduced to the subject of
Drama

·​ ​Students will understand how performances and adaptations represent interpretations of

plays.

Deliverables:

1. Word Doc Worksheet:

a. Respond to the following questions in complete sentences (approx. 75 words

each).

​ i.​ ​In what ways did the film we watched challenge your perception of the play?
​ii.​ ​What key elements of “adaptation” or directorial changes did you notice?

How do they alter the meaning of the play as you interpreted it?
​iii.​ ​How does this presentation add to/detract from the written format of the

play?
​iv.​ ​What is one choice you would have done differently, and why? Provide a

quote from the text and be specific.

​v.​ ​Would you be interested in experiencing this play live? Why or why not.
