(Answer any four out of five questions, all questions carry equal marks)

Q1. a) Derive the expression for rotational kinetic energy of a body.

b) Find the percentage decrease in weight of the body, when

taken 32km below the surface of the earth. Radius of earth=
6400km. (2X5 = 10)

Q2. a) With a neatly drawn diagram, define apparent coefficient &

real coefficient of expansion of a liquid, and hence also derive
the relation between them?

b) 20 gm of steam at 100oC is passed into a mixture of 10 gm of

ice and100 gm of water at 0oC. Find the final temperature.
Given: latent heat of ice: 80cal,/gm latent heat of steam :
540 cal/gm (2X5 = 10)

Q3. a) Derive the expression for time period of a simple pendulum.

b) A 2kg object stretches a spring by 12cm when it hangs

vertically in equilibrium. The spring is then stretched further
from equilibrium and the object released.

2) What is the frequency if 2kg object is replaced by 4kg
object? (2X5= 10)

Q 4. a) Explain the various characteristics of sound.

b) Disc of siren has 46 holes. if the frequency of sound emitted

by it is 360 Hz. What is the rate of the rotation of the disc?
Also determine the wavelength of the sound produced, given
Velocity of sound is 340m/s. (2X5 = 10)
