WalkaHOME, Walk at home for Cudeca Hospice

Benalmádena, 7 May 2020

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, the Cudeca Hospice Foundation is going
through very difficult times, due to the state of national alarm, and the impossibility of
raising funds to continue caring for more than 500 people that we are
currently attending, suffering from cancer and other advanced diseases.

For this reason and with its #CaringTogether campaign, Cudeca Hospice Foundation
will still celebrate its traditional annual Walkathon, but this year it will be an “at home
version” and it will be called “WalkaHOME", Walk at home for Cudeca Hospice”.

The objective of the walk is to raise funds to continue caring for people who need
specialized care at the end of their life.

"WalkaHOME, Walk at home for Cudeca Hospice"

It will take place on Saturday, May 9th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

How can you participate?

First: Sign up and prepare your activity.

Participants can register through the DORSALCHIP portal or the Foundation's website
with a donation starting at €2. On the payment page, in addition to the 2€ inscription
fee, you can add an optional donation.

emailed to you.

Each registration will be assigned a number that can be downloaded through the
platform and used on the day of the walk. There will be a raffle with your personal
number.

Participants should plan the physical activity that best suits their physical condition and
the space available at home to perform it on Saturday, May 9th. You can do it together
with the family, as a team, with your pet, or alone, and it will have neither times nor
distances.

Examples of activities: walking or running through any area of the home (hallway, living

Current situation of the Cudeca Hospice

Currently, the Cudeca Hospice Foundation cares for, through its healthcare teams
made up of doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and physical therapists,
more than 500 people with cancer and other advanced illnesses both at home and in
the In-Patient Unit located in Benalmádena. It also offers support to their families. All
care is totally free.

Due to the national state of alarm, the Cudeca Hospice has had to close its charity
shops; and cancel all fund raising events. For this reason, Cudeca Hospice is having
serious difficulties in carrying out its special care of patients.

This is why the Cudeca Hospice Foundation appeals to the community to help
them raise funds, so that they can continue caring for people who, today more than
ever, need our care at the end of their life.

The Cudeca Hospice Foundation has assisted more than 17,000 people since 1992,
completely free of charge and offered support to their families. In 2019 they attended
more than 1,400 people; and they offered support to more than 2,200 family members
thanks to their Home Care, Psychosocial Care, Day Unit and Rehabilitation
programmes, Information and Advice and In-Patient Unit.

All CUDECA care is free of charge. The charity works to help patients keep their dignity until the end. CUDECA’s
activity began in 1992 thanks to the work and dedication of English-born Joan Hunt, who was living on the Costa
del Sol. After the death of her husband from cancer, she decided to dedicate her life to helping others facing the
same situation. To this end she founded CUDECA. The palliative care team at CUDECA know that although they
cannot add more days to life, they can and do add quality of life to days. To continue caring, CUDECA relies on the
help of donors and supporters, and the work of volunteers.
