Shoot Plan

For this shoot I am planning to take photographs

Contact Sheet
In this photograph I wanted to take a clear picture of the water tower without the shutters in the way but, I
also wanted to keep the shutters in frame. Doing this by framing them both on separate halves with the
tower in full focus. In order to enhance the greenery, I increased saturation and contrast to create a
complete difference in tones and warmth on different sides of the image; left being cooler than the right.
The clear skies helped make the tower stand out and become the focus of the photograph.
When capturing this image, I didn’t want to focus on
what’s on the outside of the window but the inside, I
love nosing in people home and I think that the
patterns on the window, the umbrella cover on the
ledge, and the coat hanger gives an insight into what
my family is like. By putting it into black and white it
allows a viewer to interpret their own choice of colour
palette on how they perceive the photograph. The
simple pattern on the window could be a flower or face
or many other things, also depending on how a viewer
sees the rest of the surroundings.
I wanted to create a lot of contrast when editing this photo in order to enhance the shadows on the
window ledge. The juxtaposing curved and straight lines of the shadow create a tense environment.
However, the curves and tones of the candle and jar make the image seem more homely and
comforting, showing a slight difference to the harsh dark tones of the shadows.
This image is my closest link to Alfred Hitchcock's film ‘Rear Window’, the use of shutters links
to film posters I found online of the movie. I wanted to keep the tones of all the nature and sky
so by enhancing it with saturation the image became livelier than it was before. In order to
improve this photograph, I would have liked to put more birds in the frame and take the image
from a slightly higher angle, this would have been to create a more structured image.
Shoot Evaluation
I enjoyed exploring in this shoot, by looking
for more detail in my home I managed to
create photos with meaning, for example
Print 2 shows a representation of my family
in a more abstract form, without using
humans. Even though we are all restricted at
home during these times, this shoot has
shown me that you can even create
successful photographs even through your
own bedroom window. However, to improve
this shoot I could have taken images of
different structures through the shutters, in
order to create variety.
