 1: Basic information
Irina Souiki is a self-taught artist who has
been inspired by photography since the

young age of 13 when she got her fist
camera. Photographing urban decay, she
tries to capture the ‘abandoned beauty’ in
buildings and structures as with many
decaying buildings their beauty will soon be
gone.
3: camera settings
Irina Souiki uses a digital SLR as well as medium format,
toy and instant cameras. For close up shoots a zoomed
in lense and macro setting has been used. A high
aperture focuses the entire image which is used in all of
her photos.

2: Visual qualities
This photo shows an abandoned building with the wall smashed through
and building remains scattered on the floor. A chair is angled towards the
hole in the wall. The photo shows urban decay as the building is losing its
form and shows a lot of damage. I think this photo is particularly
interesting as it shows the natural state of the building however also has a
chair which contrasts the rest of the scene and has perhaps been
positioned especially for the photo. While there are no people in the
scene, the chair shows where someone might sit and brings their presence
to the picture. It is angled towards the hole almost like a window. The
empty room and poor state of the room brings an emptiness to the picture
where the prop chair stands out as an anomaly in the scene. Rule of thirds
has been effectively used to fill the frame and make the picture stronger. It
makes you look over the entire frame rather than focus on one thing and
forget the rest. Everything in the frame is important to the scene which the
composition reflects by making you look at everything.
