4.4 Test arrangement

The manufacturer had mounted the three straight joints under test onto 5-m long cable lines of
NA2XS(F)2Y 1x150 RM/25 mm2 18/30 kV type. The test objects were centrally arranged. To
apply the test voltage, each of the test lines had additionally been equipped on each side with
one auxiliary sealing end of QT III 94-EP630-2 type (made by 3M).

All test voltages were applied to the core against the cable screen, which was connected to the
test earth.

The tests did not start earlier than 24 hours after the installation of the accessories on the cable
lines.

4.4.3 Thermal short-circuit test of the screen (test 3)

Test arrangement to CENELEC Harmonization Document HD 628 S1 + A1: April 2001, Test
methods, Sub-clause 10

Before the test started, the conductors of the test lines had been connected on one end to a
short-circuit bridge and on the other end three-pole with the high current transformer and heated
with three-phase AC in order to obtain the necessary elevated (conductor) temperature. For the
thermal short-circuit test, the screens of the test lines were connected on one end to a short-circuit
bridge and on the other end three-pole with the short-circuit current source.
